BEVERLY, Mass. – Kaminski Auctions’ Aug. 22-23 sale features antiques, fine art, collectibles and maritime memorabilia from estates spanning Massachusetts to Kaminski’s second location in California. The auction will take place adjacent to the Windward Grille at 109 Eastern Ave., in Essex, Mass., with Internet live bidding provided by LiveAuctioneers.com.

History buffs will jump at the chance to bid on a rare Indian rifle ($15,000-$25,000). The rifle was originally owned by White Man Runs Him, General George A. Custer’s famous Crow scout at the Battle of Little Big Horn (June 25, 1876). Custer’s scout adorned the rifle with cultural symbols and regarded it as sacred, often using it in tribal ceremonies. This unique weapon measures 47 inches in length.

“It’s always a pleasure to encounter rare and valuable objects from our nation’s fascinating history,” said Frank Kaminski, owner of Kaminski Auctions, in reference to the remarkable Native-American firearm.

Also highlighting the auction is a painting by American artist Francis Augustus Silva. The seascape painting ($20,000-$30,000) features the faint outline of a ship on the horizon during a choppy day at sea. Silva is well known for his luminist seascapes, which have brought prices as high as seven-figures at auction. This painting is a prime specimen of his work, measuring 22 inches by 29 inches in its gilt frame.

A suite of opal and diamond jewelry ($20,000-$30,000) is also offered at this exciting two-day auction. A pair of earrings and matching necklace feature an array of 10 opals, each boasting a decorative surface design. An unusual 14-karat gold setting also boasts over 50 diamonds. The pieces are signed “Leon Paule Couture” and weigh 5.5 ozt in total.

Also featured is a Newcomb College art pottery vase ($10,000-$15,000). The multi-colored base boasts a blue and green forest design. The piece is signed and numbered on the bottom and measures 5.5 inches high.

Additional fine art offerings include a painting by Viennese artist Hans Zatzka (1859-1945). The oil on board ($15,000-$25,000), depicting a woman with an angel, is in its original antique gilt frame and measures 20 inches by 29 inches. Zatzka is well known for his religious paintings, which are highly sought after at auction.
