NEW YORK – Roland Auctions NY will present an important sale May 12 featuring over 100 lots of modern and contemporary art and design selected from choice collections – the company’s first venture into this growing market.

Notable modern artists in this sale include Richard Estes, Yayoi Kusama, Victor Vasarely, Andy Warhol, Keith Haring, Pablo Picasso, Jesus Soto, Alexander Calder and Salvador Dali. Decorative arts and design items include: a George Nelson mid-century desk, three Picasso Madoura chargers and a Madoura plate, a Victor Vasarely chess set, a Jean Royere coffee table, an Antoni Gaudi “Calvet” chair, and a set of Paul Evans side tables.

Yayoi Kusama’s bold graphic composition titled Dirty Hand is dated 1954. Framed, it measures 21 3/4 inches by 18 3/4 inches. The estimate is $40,000-$60,000.


Jesus Rafael Soto’s Incline Bleu et Noir, is signed and numbered “49/100” and measures 17 inches by 15 inches. The estimate is $8,000-$12,000.


Among the Picasso for Madoura ceramics in the auction is this unglazed charger, 16 3/4 inches in diameter. Estimate: $5,000-$7,000.


Stamped and signed by Keith Haring Estate, this untitled silkscreen has a $2,200-$2,500 estimate.


Henry Faulkner’s oil on Masonite painting titled Alley carries a $2,000-$3,000 estimate.
