NEW YORK – When auctioneers William J. Roland and Robert Roland open their March 14 sale, “Selections from The Aviva and Jacob Baal-Teshuva Collection,” Roland Auctions NY will present a storied collection of postwar and contemporary art thoughtfully assembled over more than half a century. The artwork in this auction is selected to provide opportunities for collectors from novice beginner to blue-chip connoisseur. Absentee and Internet live bidding is available through LiveAuctioneers.
Born in Jerusalem in 1929, Jacob Baal-Teshuva, in the course of his career, has become one of the most distinguished international editors and appraisers of modern and contemporary art.
Featured in Tuesday’s sale are many smaller scale sculptures, paintings, and prints not seen in the marketplace for years from the Baal-Teshuvas’ living areas.
These pieces, either gifted or exchanged among their close artist friends, signify the couple’s early relationships with notable 20th century luminaries. Among this selection, bidders will vie for work from the studios, galleries, and publishers of sought after artists including: Yaacov Agam, Richard Anuszkiewicz, Miguel Berrocal, Grisha Bruskin, Alexander Calder, Christo and Jeanne-Claude, Francis Bacon, Caser Baldaccini, Marc Chagall, Salvador Dali, Hans Erni, Toshimitsu Imai, Jeff Koons, Wifredo Lam, Mordechai Levanon, Jacques Lipchitz, Catherine Lopes-Curval, Christopher Makos, Mimmo Rotella, Ludwig Sander, Buky Schwartz, Cindy Sherman, Rufino Tamayo, Mark Tobey, and Andy Warhol among many more.
Tuesday, March 14 is certain to be a busy day at Roland Auctions NY with the sale getting under way at 11 a.m. Eastern.
