NEW YORK – On Dec. 3, Roland Auctions NY will present its sixth annual Holiday Auction featuring several hundred lots of fine and decorative arts selected from choice estates throughout metropolitan New York City and the East Coast. Absentee and Internet live bidding will be available through LiveAuctioneers.com.

Roland Auctions’ devotees and newcomers alike will be filling in the main gallery’s sales floor hoping to “win” fresh-to market items across a spectrum of collecting categories.

Fine Art will have bidders vying for paintings, sculpture, prints, and photography not available in the marketplace for decades.  This month’s estate pieces span European master works through modern vanguards. Featured works include a collection of postwar Art Brut and CoBrA (Copenhagen, Brussels and Amsterdam) artists. Rounding out this auction’s fine art offerings is a group of vintage signed Louis Icart etching including his iconic image The Rainbow (below).

Chinese and Asian Art has a stronger than usual showing with objects accomplished in ceramic, bronze, enamel, hardstone and jade accompanied by a selection of furniture. Already generating a great deal of interest are Chinese, Tibetan and Indian ceremonial and devotional bronze objects including Ming archaic vases and Buddhas. Also deserving mention is a figural carved black stone stele and a fine Japanese bronze archer.

A small but exceptional group of items celebrates U.S. and Soviet space exploration. One highlight in this area is a 1981 flown NASA space shuttle Columbia flag and flight patch. Other highly sought after items include original illustrations by Mel Hunter, specifically his depiction of Soviet capsules docking in low obit, which appeared in Life magazine’s August 1962 edition.
