GLEN COVE, N.Y. – Roland Auctions will present its June-July Estates Sale on Friday, June 30 and Saturday, July 1. Absentee and Internet live bidding will be available through LiveAuctioneers.
The June 30 session will feature a wide array of fresh-to-market estate finds and moderately valued antique and modern furnishings, along with many unique decorative items. Highlights include a Simon Willard Roxbury grandfather clock with fluted columns and bronze capitals, estimated at $15,000-$25,000; a Chaumet Paris clock and armillary sphere centerpiece made of gilt metal, malachite and red porphyry and estimated at $1,200-$1,500; a patinated French Art Deco bronze lioness by Thomas Francois Cartier, estimated at $600-$800; and a circa 1920s-1930s tall vase, marked “Schneider, France” and estimated at $500-$700.
The July 1 session will have a strong focus on Contemporary and Modern art, which has done extremely well the last few months at Roland. It will also present hundreds of lots of fine art, decorative arts, 20th-century Modern pieces, antique and vintage furniture, textiles, silver, gold and silver jewelry, rugs, collectibles, Asian art and decorative arts and lighting. Taking the spotlight in the art arena will be a 1961 Georgette Chen (Chinese, 1907-1992) painting titled Seaside, depicting a family scene with rowboats in a channel and estimated at $20,000-$30,000; and a Walter Gay (American, 1856-1937) oil on canvas of an interior scene with grand design and decorations, estimated at $10,000-$15,000.
Mojave Desert, a 1940 Maynard Dixon (American, 1875-1946) landscape with rolling hills and trees, has an estimate of $8,000-$12,000; while a 1984 Salvador Dali (Spanish, 1904-1989) work, Christ of St. John, a silvered bronze bas relief with an engraved signature and edition number 47/350 is estimated at $800-$1,200.
Also of note is a Yun Gee (Chinese and American, 1906-1963) oil on board study of a seated nude male, signed at the upper left in English and Chinese, estimated at $8,000-$12,000; and an oil on board attributed to Thomas Hart Benton (American, 1889-1975), titled Rural Road, which has an estimate of $4,000-$6,000.
Decorative arts choices include a large Royal Copenhagen Flora Danica tureen with cover and stand with ladle en suite (marked “Martin”), estimated at $7,000-$10,000; and a Jean-Marie Camus bronze (French, 1877-1955), titled Pan et Nymph, has an estimate of $1,200-$1,500.
Among the top furniture pieces are a mid-18th century Italian Rococo painted commode with a later marble top, estimated at $4,000-$6,000; and a 19th-century English Chinese Chippendale-style corner cabinet in carved mahogany with a lattice design and a shell top, estimated at $1,500-$2,000.
