PASADENA, Calif. – Royal Antiques will offer a monumental French automaton musical jeweled bracket clock at a Collector’s Delight Auction on Thursday, Oct. 19. The 38-inch-tall clock was made in the 1800s for the Chinese market. It is running and striking, and all automaton mechanisms are functioning.
Highly decorated in 24K gold plate, the clock (above) has a white porcelain dial with black painted Roman numerals a sweep second hand and colorful jeweled bezel. It has three stages with nine beaded cones that spin, three waterfalls to the sides and ducks moving up and down in front. Flowers on top rotate opposite of the flowers on clock face, which rotate in separate directions.
The clock is expected to sell for between $250,000 and $500,000, however, comparable Chinese automaton bracket clocks have sold recently for $450,000 to more than $800,000.
