CHARLESTON, S.C. – The Charleston Estate Auctions June 27 Southern Estates sale has a large selection of everything – highlighted by exceptional fine art, sterling silver, porcelain, cranberry glass, sports cards and comics, fine and antique rugs, furniture, home decor, clocks, and much more. Standout lots include a gorgeous large cabochon ruby and diamond ring. The 14K gold ring features one four prong-set 17.37-carat oval cabochon ruby set in the center of a halo of 27 prong-set round brilliant-cut rubies, and accented by 20 prong-set round brilliant-cut diamonds set in a split shank. The exceptional ring, which is undated, carries an estimate of $9,000-$10,000.
Leading the lineup of decorative objects is a fine pair of cloisonne candlesticks portraying storks that hold blooming lotus candle holders in their beaks. Both are expertly rendered in the centuries old art of decorated objects with enamels fired over bronze. The hollow stork figures are supported on individual raised rectangular plinths. Each holds a candlestick spike in its mouth, and each has solid brass legs with a scale pattern. The unsigned pair of cloisonne storks stand more than 30 in tall and are offered together, estimated at the sum of $5,000-$7,000.
Artwork offerings include Sunrise on Sullivans Island, a painting by the self-taught artist Mickey Williams (American, b. 1961-). Signed by Williams and dated 1992, it features an ethereal image of a trio of palm trees on an island sandwiched between the blue sea and the delicately colored early morning sky. It is estimated at $2,500-$3,000.
All-original 1968 Schwinn Sting Ray bicycle, estimated at $900-$1,200
Rounding out the highlights in the sale lineup is a 1968 Schwinn Sting Ray bicycle with three speed gears. The bike is all-original, including its campus green paint and its banana seat. It comes with its original receipt, original hang tag, and original owners manual. While it has some very minor wear, it displays and rides well. It is estimated at $900-$1,200.
