NEW YORK – The Salmagundi Club is conducting its annual Fall Auction Exhibition and Fundraising Sale through Oct. 21, 2016. Over 175 artworks by Salmagundi members will be auctioned. Collectors since the early 1900s have flocked to these events to find top-quality works of representational painting, drawing, fine-art graphics and photography. The three auctions will take place on Friday, Oct. 7; Sunday, Oct. 16; and Friday, Oct. 21, each beginning at 8 p.m. Eastern.
Absentee and Internet live bidding is available through LiveAuctioneers.com. Auctions will be broadcast live via webcam at LiveAuctioneers.com. Viewing of the art is at the Salmagundi Club, 47 Fifth Ave. Gallery hours are Monday through Friday, 1-8 p.m. Saturday and Sunday, 1-5 p.m.
Included among the many artists who will have work on the block are Don Demers, Kathy Anderson (above), Bill Creevy, Richard Lithgow, Mike Budden (below), Charles Yoder and John Traynor.
Nicholas Dawes, vice president of Heritage Auctions and Salmagundi Club member, will be the auctioneer for the first auction. Tim Newton, Salmagundi chairman of the board, will host the second auction and artist-member Del-Bouree Bach will be the auctioneer for the third auction.
In addition to the auctions, the American Masters Exhibition and Sale will be on display in the club’s renovated Upper Gallery through Oct. 21. This annual offering of fine art by nationally recognized artists is held for the benefit of the Salmagundi Club.
Founded in 1871, the Salmagundi Club is one of the oldest art organizations in the United States. Housed in an historic brownstone mansion in Greenwich Village, the club offers programs including art classes, exhibitions, painting demonstrations, and art auctions throughout the year for members and the general public. The Salmagundi facilities include three galleries, a library, an elegant period parlor, and a dining room and bar with vintage pool tables. All facilities are available for special events and private rentals. The Club owns a collection of over 1,500 works of art spanning its 145-year history and has a membership of over 850 artists and patrons. Its members have included important American artists such as Thomas Moran, William Merritt Chase, Louis Comfort Tiffany, N.C. Wyeth and Childe Hassam. Today the Club builds on this lineage by providing a center for the resurgence of representational art in America. The Salmagundi Club is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization.
