GLEN COVE, N.Y. – Roland Auctions NY will present its July Auction on Saturday, July 16 beginning at 10 am Eastern time. Its lineup will focus on fine and contemporary art, decorative arts, furniture, silver and Asian items. Absentee and Internet live bidding will be available through LiveAuctioneers.

Highlights from the July 16 sale include a selection of abstract pieces by American artist Sam Francis (1923-1994). He occupies a prominent position in post-war American painting. Although associated with the Abstract Expressionist movement and Clement Greenberg’s Post-Painterly Abstraction, he also had direct and prolonged exposure to French painting and to Japanese art, which had an individual impact on his work.

Featured will be a 1979 untitled Sam Francis abstract monotype, rendered in Windsor Newton oils and dry pigments on rag paper and signed in pencil at the lower right. It comes with its original bill of sale and is estimated at $20,000-$30,000. A second Sam Francis work on offer is another 1979 untitled abstract on rag paper, this one an acrylic painting in shades of deep blue. It, too, comes with its original bill of sale, and its estimate is $15,000-$20,000.

Another stunning artwork in the July 16 sale lineup is a Henri Fantin-Latour (French, 1836-1904) still life of flowers. The oil on panel is signed at the upper left and dated 1861, and its documentation includes a March 1927 bill of sale. It is estimated at $12,000-$18,000.

Completing the art highlights is Prevalence of Ritual, a portfolio of five screenprints by Romare Bearden (American, 1911-1988): Salome, Delilah, In The Garden, Prologue to Troy and Noah, Third Day. Numbered HC 2/37, the five were printed in 1974 by Sirocco Screenprinters. Each is signed in pencil by Bearden, and together the portfolio is estimated at $15,000-$25,000.

Among the Asian decorative items will be a Chinese Qianlong (1735-1796) tea dust glazed porcelain bowl, estimated at $7,000-$10,000.

Silver offerings are led by a pair of water pitchers by Buccellati, weighing 46 troy ounces and fitted with bamboo handles. The pair is estimated at $4,000-$5,000.
