Scores of luxury brands offered in online watch auction May 2

NEW YORK – Famous name wristwatches and pocket watches will be going up for bid in a Jasper52 online auction on Wednesday, May 2. Patek Philippe, Rolex and Tiffany & Co. are among the brands available in this 200-lot collection of vintage and modern timepieces. Absentee and Internet live bidding is available through LiveAuctioneers.

Many people equate the Mickey Mouse wristwatch to the first watch they ever owned. Introduced in 1933 by Ingersoll, watches bearing the Disney cartoon character on the dial have been a favorite of youngsters and adults alike through the years. A special watch for the latter group is a Rolex Oyster 1501 model that has an after-production likeness Mickey hand-painted on the dial (above). The 14K gold watch has a bezel adorned with diamonds. This Swiss-made automatic watch has a perpetual date function and is in excellent condition (est. $8,000-$10,000).

Officine Panerai is a luxury Italian watch manufacturer founded in 1860. A modern version available in the Jasper52 auction is a Panerai Luminor Automatic GMT, an ocean chronometer in a stainless steel case (below). Manufactured by Rolex, the watch has the familiar cyclops eye on the sapphire crystal over the “3” spot. With its original black dial and luminous dots, this handsome watch has a $4,500-$5,500 estimate.

Founded in 1839 Patek Philippe is the last independent family-owned Genevan watch manufacturer. Two Patek Philippe Chronometro Gondolo models are featured in the auction. One is a pocket watch in a 55.5 mm 18K gold case with a chronometer movement (est. $8,000-$10,000).

The Patek Philippe wristwatch is 14K gold and has a manual chronometer movement and original porcelain and white dial with Roman numbers and signatures ($7,000-$8,000).

Two watches from Tiffany & Co. are featured, one for a lady—just in time for Mother’s Day. It is an Omega model platinum and diamond watch from 1938 (est. $4,000-$5,000).

Also from Tiffany is a platinum pocket watch made by Audemars Piguet & Co. This Swiss-made watch features a spectacular display back with original signed face, hands and seven-adjustment movement ($3,000-$3,500).
