NEW YORK – A guitar autographed by Tom Petty is the lead item in a collection of rock ’n’ roll memorabilia devoted to the late frontman of Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers, which will be offered in a Jasper52 online auction on Tuesday, Feb. 6. Absentee and Internet bidding is available through LiveAuctioneers.

Petty signed the Sunburst California electric guitar on Sept. 17, 2006, when the Heartbreakers were the headline act for an Austin City Limits concert in Austin, Texas. The guitar is signed, “Tom Petty, Austin City Limits.” It may be the only guitar he signed at the event in this manner, with the specific addition of the words “Austin City Limits.” The instrument is new, unused and has a new case. It comes with two certificates of authenticity.

The collection, which numbers a baker’s dozen, also includes a scarce music store point-of-purchase standup display promoting Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers’ sixth album, Southern Accents, which was released in 1985 through MCA Records. The display depicts the album cover, which features an 1865 Winslow Homer painting, topped by a die-cut head-and-shoulders picture of Petty wearing a black jacket and dark sunglasses.
