Midcentury modern design enthusiasts will have plenty of lots to choose from in this sale. The enormous rosewood and ebonized sideboard in Lot 184 is expected to bring $3,000-$5,000 at auction. Lot 363 contains six futuristic dining chairs by Paolo Buffa circa 1950 (above). More nostalgic and whimsical items include Lot 245, a retro bookcase with porthole cutouts, and a pair of George Jetson-style club chairs in Lot 296. For that one perfect ultramodern accent piece, try Lot 61’s atomic mirror accented with colored glass, or Lot 3, a pair of Astrolab kinetic sculptures (below) estimated at $1,000-$1,500.
For a break from wood, leather and fabric upholstery, this sale has numerous pieces made of exotic materials such as bamboo and rattan. A Janine Abraham-designed iron and rattan chair is available in Lot 2, and Lot 66 features a dining set made of bamboo, brass, and burled walnut. Lots 119 and 120 contain two pairs of deer hide-upholstered lounge chairs, each valued at $2,500-$4,000. Rope items include the pair of show-stopping French chairs in Lot 108, and Lot 12’s armchairs by Adrian Audoux and Frida Minet circa 1940.
Those with more classic tastes will also have many beautiful options to bid on. Lot 217 is a stunning 1940s sideboard featuring a reverse-painted peacock and flowers scene, estimated to bring $3,000-$4,000.
Art Deco aficionados may be interested in the geometric chandelier in Lot 135 as well as Lot 154’s classy parchment console tables. A 1920 marble-top server by Michel Dufet is available in Lot 145. Two gorgeous, rare Italian pieces having Neoclassical-themed Lincrusta decorations are offered in this sale: a sideboard in Lot 202 and a dining table in Lot 361.
