NEW YORK – Colorful and intricate handmade quilts comprise the bulk of a vintage textile auction that Jasper52 will hold on Thursday, Dec. 10. Also featured are many hooked rugs and handwoven Persian and Native American rugs and blankets. Bid absentee or live online through LiveAuctioneers.

More than 150 quilts are offered in the 266-lot auction. One of the finest and oldest is a Trapunto quilt (above) dated 1858 and signed with the initials of the maker. The quilted designs depict grapes, winding vines, many flower varieties – all with delicately stuffed stems. Each of the four center blocks has a different complicated floral design. The 12 fractional blocks around the perimeter have elaborate floral trapunto designs as well. The intricate indigo fleur-de-lis snowflakes are applique stitched. Every square inch of this lovely antique quilt is covered with beautifully stuffed designs and quilting at 10-12 stitches per inch per side. It is expected to sell for $4,500-$5,500.

Also from Pennsylvania is an early 1900s Mennonite quilt that lives up to its Eye Dazzler name. The maker initialed the quilt on the reverse side (est. $1,750-$3,000).
