DOUGLASS, Kan. – Woody Auction will close out 2021 in grand fashion, with a Saturday, December 4 auction beginning at 9:30 am Central time. It is highlighted by nearly 100 lots of Crown Milano, plus offerings from private collections that includes Steuben, Quezal, Durand, Tiffany, Mettlach plaques and a sizable lamp collection. Absentee and Internet live bidding will be available through LiveAuctioneers.
Steuben is enormously popular with collectors and this sale has some wonderful examples, such as an unmarked, outstanding quality art glass lamp in a Dragon pattern, estimated at $1,500-$3,000, and also a signed rose cintra and opal art glass vase in a Supino acid cut pattern and boasting spectacular colors. Estimated at $1,000-$2,500, it is a worthy addition to any collection.
A solid crystal and 18K gold Steuben sculpture designed by James Houston and titled Column of the Owl is being offered with its original case. It carries an estimate of $2,500-$5,000. Another sculpture of note (not by Steuben) is an original bronze by Emile Pinedo, titled Arabe En Marche. It is estimated at $800-$1,600.
Another colorful standout is a massive charger, marked Mettlach and signed Heinrich Schlitt, with an incredible fantasy scene showing a cherub and a fairy, estimated at $1,500-$2,000.
Equally dazzling is an art glass covered jar marked “Crown Milano 572.” It boasts blue and white tones with a colorful rose floral decor, heavy enamel scroll highlights and a pattern matched lid. Its estimate is $2,000-$4,000.
Also on offer will be a framed porcelain plaque marked KPM and titled Eremit (translating to “Hermit”), picturing a man kneeling in a courtyard in front of a book and crucifix, with a note indicating the work is artist-signed by Ed Baedschneider. It is estimated at $1,000-$2,500.
The jewelry category will be led by a 14K yellow gold bracelet featuring 13 oval-cut sapphires each surrounded by 12 round diamonds, separated by stars that each have seven round diamonds of G-H color and VS-SI clarity. It is estimated at $4,000-$6,000.
Also up for bid is a jardiniere and pedestal marked Weller Art Pottery of Aurelian twist form, with dark brown tones and a strawberry decor, estimated at $1,500-$3,000; and a 97-piece sterling flatware set by Georg Jensen in the Acanthus pattern.
