Stevens Auction heavy into Victorian furnishings April 18

MERIDIAN, Miss. – A monumental 19th century bonnet-top etagere made by Thomas Brooks – identical to two other examples that have each fetched more than $100,000 at auction – will be sold Saturday, April 18, by Stevens Auction Co. LiveAuctioneers.com will provide absentee and Internet live bidding.

Featured will be fine quality items including important furniture from three prominent Southern estates including an antebellum mansion in Murfreesboro, Tenn., called Castlewood.

The Thomas Brooks rosewood etagere stands 9 feet 2 inches high and is described as museum quality.

Standing 8 feet tall, a heavily carved mahogany Chippendale-style grandfather clock with nine tubes and Elliott works, London, circa 1890, is typical of the items to be sold at the auction.

A Karpen suite will be split between these chairs and a sofa. Each piece features full figures carved in solid mahogany.
