NEW YORK – The Jasper52 auction titled “Style & Function: The Mid-Century Modern Sale” has all the furniture and fixtures to decorate a home in a retro but fresh, sleek look. Clean lines, organic contours and stylish functionality are all offered in this specially curated sale on Wednesday, April 10.
Highlights include a rare Ico Parisi rosewood table, impressive lounge chairs and an iconic Sputnik chandelier. Absentee and Internet live bidding is available through LiveAuctioneers.

The large Sputnik-style chandelier, inspired by the first space satellite launched by the Soviet Union in 1957, is reminiscent of a starburst. Measuring 60 inches in diameter, the fixture has about 30 lights at the ends of brass rods that extend from a brass base. This high-quality piece (above)  is expected to sell for $4,000-$5,000.

Danish Modern furniture in the auction includes a pair of teak ladder-back dining chairs by Korup Stolefabrik and a 7-foot-long teak credenza made by Claussen & Son (below).

Eero Saarinen reportedly designed the groundbreaking Womb Chair at Florence Knoll’s request for “a chair that was like a basket full of pillows – something she could really curl up in.” The Finnish American architect and industrial designer answered in 1948 with a chair that supports countless positions and offers a comforting oasis of calm – hence the name. A 1990s version of the Womb Chair having a rare industrial X base by Knoll is offered in the Jasper52 auction.

More than a dozen Murano glass chandeliers are available in the sale. One 1960s fixture designed by Paolo Venini (1895–1959) is a cascade of about three dozen glass teardrops.

John Louis Bartolomeo was a noted Chicago architect before retiring in the 1980s to pursue his art career. His 17-inch-tall bronze and carub wood sculpture from the artist’s personal collection is featured in the auction. Although the work is numbered “5/20,” it is reported only five were created before Bartolomeo’s death in 2012.

Oscar Niemeyer (1907-2012) was another renowned architect did not begin designing furniture until the 1960s. A French Modernist coffee table offered in the auction has attributes of a Niemeyer-designed piece.
