DALLAS — Dallas Auction Gallery will hold its spring Fine and Decorative Arts, Jewelry and Fashion Auction on Wednesday, March 2. It will feature personal items from the estate of Betty Gertz, the longtime proprietor of the East & Orient Company of Dallas, including several items acquired from Axel Vervoordt, the famous Belgian interior designer. Absentee and Internet live bidding will be available through LiveAuctioneers.
Fine art offerings are led by Hill Country Springtime, an appealing William Slaughter (American, 1923 – 2003) oil on canvas estimated at $6,000-$8,000. The work bears his signature at the lower left.
Jewelry highlights include a diamond ring set with an 8.85-carat modified cushion cut diamond that is GIA-certified and also I in color and VS2 in clarity. Its platinum mounting is set with an additional 4.43 carats of diamonds that are approximately G-H in color and SI1-SI2 in clarity. It is estimated at $80,000-$120,000.
Ably representing the watch selections is a Harry Winston Premier 18K yellow gold and diamond watch, estimated at $4,000-$7,000. The diamonds are set throughout the case of the watch, which also features a blue dial with a chronograph and a cognac-colored crocodile strap with a gold deployment clasp.
Among the luxurious accessories is a Chanel snakeskin metallic flap bag with gold tone hardware, estimated at $800-$1,200. Its interior bears the marking “Chanel / Made in France.”
Completing the highlights of the March 2 sale is a 116-piece Wallace Grande Baroque sterling silver flatware service, estimated at $3,000-$5,000. It includes 12 dinner knives; 12 dinner forks; 25 salad forks; 12 soup spoons; 13 place spoons; 12 individual butter knives; seven cocktail forks; six individual butter spreaders; two iced tea spoons; a gravy ladle; six large vegetable serving spoons; two large pierced serving spoons; a pie server; a large serving spoon with a scalloped edge; a meat fork; a cheese knife; a sugar spoon and a jelly spoon. The service weighs 159.52 troy ounces.
