Tiffany shakers a prize catch at Capo Auction, Nov. 20
NEW YORK – Amid the nearly 500 lots of fine art, French Art Deco and Mid Century furniture and decorations, a small treasure to be noted in Capo Auction’s sale on Nov. 20 is a pair of marked Tiffany & Co. sterling silver shakers.
Standing just 2-3/4 inches high, the salt shaker and pepper shaker are each of baluster form with hand-hammered surface in the Japanese taste and with two applied mixed metal fish within an etched seaweed ground. They are marked on the bottom: “Tiffany & Co. / 51832 M 1260 / Sterling Silver / and / Other Metals / 315” along with an “M.F.M.” monogram.
The shakers, lot 100, carry a $2,000-$3,000 estimate.
Saturday’s auction will begin at 10 a.m. Eastern at the new state-of-the-art Capo Auction house at 36-01 Queens Blvd. in Long Island City, just over the 59th Street Bridge. LiveAuctioneers will provide Internet live bidding.
