MARLBOROUGH, Mass. — Skinner Auctioneers is hosting an online auction of Lighting & Design, running from January 19-31. The auction will feature a strong lighting selection as well as collections of French studio pottery and glassware. The fresh-to-market material comes from private collections that emerged at the perfect time, building a robust selection for Skinner’s auction. “This auction is particularly strong on lighting, with examples from Tiffany Studios, Handel, Pairpoint and Bradley & Hubbard, with the majority coming from two private collections. There are also smaller collections of French pate-de-verre, French art pottery and Steuben glass,” said Leah Kingman, newly appointed director of 20th century design.

The top lot of the sale is a Tiffany Studios Lilypad table lamp, created circa 1905 and estimated at $60,000-$80,000. The lilypad shade is made from irregular ovals of shades of greens, yellow and clear glass, combining to form a beautiful design.

The sale also features a circa-1900 Tiffany Studios Dragonfly table lamp, estimated at $20,000-$40,000.

Another significant item in the sale is a Fredrick Carder vase created for John Northwood, the president of Stephens & Williams and a cameo glass artist. Northwood had earlier encouraged Carder to pursue his interest in glass-making and arranged for Carder to join Stephens & Williams as a designer. This sterling silver glass presentation vase is estimated at $7,000-$9,000.

Leah Kingman was recently appointed as the director of 20th century design at Skinner Auctioneers. This sale is the perfect starting point to her blossoming new role at Skinner as she will continue to make a significant impact on the department.
