BRISTOL, Conn. – More than 500 quality lots composed of thousands of items will be sold in an online-only Father’s Day Extravaganza Auction slated for Sunday, June 15, starting promptly at 5 p.m. Eastern time. The auction will be conducted by Tim’s Inc. Auctions. The annual event was begun by Tim’s father, Peter, who passed away in 2005.

LiveAuctioneers.com will provide Internet live bidding.

“We expect this auction to go well into the wee hours of the following day, with spirited online bidding such as we’ve seen in past Father’s Day Extravaganzas,” said Tim Chapulis. “We’re starting at 5 p.m., to give everyone time to enjoy the day with their fathers and families, then end their day with a special auction. We encourage bidders to stick around through to the very end.”

Headlining this year’s auction will be property from the estate of Arthur “Artie” Shaw, a beloved longtime auctioneer, appraiser and antiques shop owner from Torrington, Conn., who passed away a few months ago. Over 1,000 items from Shaw’s shop, which closed three years ago, and private collections will be condensed down into multiples totaling more than 100 lots.

Featured from Shaw’s collection will be a beautiful antique horse-drawn sleigh – a focal point that graced the window of his antiques shop for years – and a pair of opposite facing Paul McCobb (1917-1969) room dividers, complete and in two sections (etageres and table/base). The mahogany has a light champagne finish and the frame and pulls are brass.

Also from the Shaw estate are a rare Flying Tigers stained glass art piece; tribal carvings and many Native American pieces; his private fishing collection of lures, poles, trophy mounts and more; Oriental rugs in various sizes and designs; oil paintings; estate jewelry; and a lovely S-rolltop desk.

Also in the auction will be furnishings from a Litchfield, Conn., home dated 1764, to include a beautiful circa-1750 two-part Queen Anne highboy, a 30-inch wide English Regency tambour door sideboard with lions on the door pulls, a fine French writing desk and a gorgeous Queen Anne tilt-top table with bird cage mechanism showing great finish and burling.

Pieces attributed to the renowned American 19th century furniture maker R.J. Horner will include a rare oak curio server combination with a glass door on the left and a server on the right, having a mirror on top with two winged dragons, plus claw feet and felt-lined interior; and a pair of oak file cabinets with full-standing and facing winged griffins and fancy lions as adornments.

Two Harley-Davidson motorcycles will come up for bid, as will many gold and silver coins including brilliant uncirculated silver dollars and a currency hoard from the 1930s. Estate jewelry will feature bracelets, watches, earrings, precious stones, diamonds, rubies and sapphires, and an 18K gold flower pin with sapphire stones and the original Tiffany & Co. box.

Also sold will be the contents of numerous estate safety deposit boxes (some containing jewelry and coins), Hollywood memorabilia that once graced the walls of a local movie theater in Bristol (to include lobby cards and black and white publicity stills, plus some vintage movie posters), and a life-size Power Rangers figurine that talks when prompted.

An antique doll collection comes from the estate of Maria Cambra, a member of the Jenny Lind Doll Club of Connecticut, a lifelong doll collector and maker of dolls who recently passed away. Many doll accessories will also be sold, as will a collection of early Heyward Wakefield-era wicker baby buggies sporting large wooden and wire wheels.

A collection of artwork by Sante Graziani (1920-2005), an American artist and educator at Yale University widely known for his murals that adorned many public schools and other government buildings, will also be sold. Other original oil paintings and artworks will also come up for bid. Also in the sale is a rare saber tooth tiger fossil, plus additional fossil and mineral collections.

Perfect Father’s Day “man cave” offerings will include a vintage Brunswick-Balke-Collender Co. slate-top mahogany pool table with beautiful cue rack (proceeds going to benefit the Morris Volunteer Fire Dept.), and rock ’n’ roll autographed guitars and memorabilia – with proceeds going to benefit St. Jude’s Children’s Research Hospital and the Lyceum of Terryville, Conn.

Also slated to be sold online are early country store advertising signs, an antique fire alarm box with the original paint, and a Victorian Jenny Lind secretary desk with two female busts adorning the front doors, lighting items, and a 2007 BX2350 Kubota Tractor, which is well maintained and in fine running condition.

A buyer’s premium of 21 percent will be applied to all purchased, regardless of method of participation.

Every participating bidder is asked to make a suggested donation of $10 to benefit the St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, in memory of Peter Chapulis, Tim’s late father. Peter was a big fan of entertainer Danny Thomas, who once said if he made it in Hollywood, he would do something for sick and disadvantaged kids. He did just that, and his legacy lives on today.

“We are proud to continue this time-honored tradition, of supporting the St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital and keeping the memory of my father alive,” said Chapulis. “Peter was an important part of the auction business a strong supporter of having an auction on Father’s Day, to honor all fathers, past and present. To date, we’ve raised over $66,000 for St. Jude’s.”

To consign an item, an estate or collection, phone Tim Chapulis at 860-459-0964 or e-mail him at tims.inc@snet.net.
