CRAWFORDSVILLE, Ind. – Route 32 Auctions’ Country Store & More Auction, scheduled for Friday, May 20 and Saturday, May 21, will feature 500 lots each day reflecting an eclectic mix of country store collectibles, salesman’s sample oddities, advertising items and more. The auction starts at 10 am on both days. Absentee and Internet live bidding will be available through LiveAuctioneers.
Day 1 lots include a single-sided tin sign for the Music Master Washington Liquor Company in Spokane, Washington, graded 9.25, and an amazing example of early West Coast advertising. It is estimated at $50-$50,000.
Another strong sign in the lineup is a William M. Fifer Jeweler sign that appears to be made of zinc and displays well, is rated 7.5 and estimated at $50-$50,000. Equally worthy is a Fisher Dairy Milk & Cream sign, marked Burdick Enamel Sign Co., rated 8.75, sporting very good color and gloss while showing light wear with some minor chipping. Its estimate is also $50-$50,000.
On Day 2, the merchandise mix will be just as broad, ranging from a Ford concept or development suspension model, with case postage addressed to Henry Ford, rated 8.5 and estimated at $50-$50,000; to an early wood pig carousel with a hollow body, not marked and not painted, so all the seams and cracks are fully visible, rated 6.5 and bearing an identical estimate.
A horizontal single-cylinder steam engine model made from metal and wood construction and highly detailed, with an eye-catching industrial look, is rated 8.75-9 and carries an estimate of $50-$50,000. Also, a functioning German tower clock mechanism with heavy metal construction, which has a slave clock with good face and hands, three barrels and two flywheels, rated 8.75-9, also sports an estimate of $50-$50,000.
An early salesman’s sample for an S & L Johnson reaping machine in a wooden case, with key, is marked, “S & L Johnson Patent Dec. 8, 1853,” and is rated 8+. Also, an early H. C. Evans & Co. (Chicago) gaming wheel, rated 7.75, shows images of dice on the wheel and measures a stout 91 by 60 ½in.
