STOURPAINE, UK – Onslows’ July 13 auction reflects the summer travel season by offering many posters promoting destinations and the means to arrive there. Absentee and Internet live bidding is available through LiveAuctioneers.

Whitley Bay, a seaside town on the northeast coast of England, became a popular resort in the late 19th century. A colorful 1930s lithograph poster (above) for the London and North Eastern Railway shows sunbathers relaxing on the Whitley Bay rocks. Illustrated by British painter John Littlejohns (1874-1955), the poster measures about 40 by 50 inches (£1,000-£1,500/$1,313-$1,969)

Another LNER lithograph poster depicts Dunbar, a town on the southeast coast of Scotland. The resort’s attractions are listed below the colorful image of poolside beauties in Alfred Lambart’s illustration. Printed by Chorley & Pickersgill, this 1920s poster also has a £1,000-£1,500 estimate.

The famous A.M. Cassandre poster for Étoile du Nord (Star of the North) by French painter Adolphe Mouron (1901-1968) is expected to top the auction at more than £10,000/$13,130.

A collection of 18 original poster designs by Peter Clark of the Plymouth School of Art, circa 1938, each about 30½ by 20½ inches, will be sold as individual lots (est. £200-£500).

An original movie poster for Howard Hughes’ notorious Western titled The Outlaw starring Jane Russell measures about 30½ by 40½ inches (est. £1,000-£1,500).

Several 1950s lithograph prints feature Cunard ocean liners including the Queen Mary and Queen Elizabeth.
