Clars sales deliver jewelry, fine art and Asian art, April 14-15
OAKLAND, Calif. – Clars Auction Gallery will hold a series of sales on Friday, April 14 and Saturday, April 15. Absentee and Internet live bidding will be available through LiveAuctioneers.
First up is the Spring Fine Jewelry and Timepieces Auction on Friday, April 14, beginning at 9:30 am Pacific time. The sale is highlighted by exceptional gemstones, including an approximately 12-carat Colombian emerald, diamond and 18K gold ring, estimated at $10,000-$20,000; a pair of Victorian Colombian emerald and diamond earrings, estimated at $5,000-$7,000; a natural pearl, diamond and platinum necklace, estimated at $6,000-$8,000; an unheated Burmese ruby, diamond and 14K gold ring, estimated at $15,000-$20,000; and an unheated Ceylon sapphire, diamond and platinum ring, estimated at $15,000-$20,000.
Complementing the auction will be a selection of diamond jewelry that includes an antique diamond and 18K gold ring, estimated at $2,000-$4,000; a diamond and 14K white gold bracelet, estimated at $15,000-$20,000; and a diamond and 18K white gold riviere necklace, estimated at $30,000-$40,000.
Another noteworthy piece in the sale lineup is an 18K gold Byzantine link chain necklace by Fred, estimated at $4,000-$6,000. Also featured are two brooches by Cubism pioneer Georges Braque, estimated at $5,000-$7,000 and $4,000-$6,000, respectively.
The April 14 sale also includes a selection of timepieces, led by an 18K gold Audemars Piguet automatic Day-Date wristwatch, estimated at $8,000-$12,000; an 18K gold Ulysse Nardin 150th Anniversary Perpetual, estimated at $12,000-$18,000; an 18K white gold Patek Phillipe, estimated at $5,000-$7,000; and a diamond and 18K gold Cartier Tank Francaise, estimated at $5,000-$7,000.
Following the April 14 jewelry auction is an afternoon sale on the same date, titled Fine Interiors & Design Auction. Its fine art treasures include an oil on board by American painter Maynard Dixon, who is much revered for his depictions of the American West and Southwest. The painting in the April 14 sale, titled Sentinel Peak, shows a stark desert landscape with a solitary butte dominating the horizon. A trail of white clouds seems to rise from the peak like a chimney into a strikingly blue sky. This piece is estimated at $15,000-$25,000.
The third and final auction in the group is titled April 15th Fine Art, F&D, Asian Art, and will showcase exactly 750 lots. Offerings from Clars’ Asian Art department will include Chinese scholar’s objects such as a finely carved aloeswood scholar’s brush pot, a Kangxi period underglaze blue and white brush pot painted with various court figures, and a large celadon jade ruyi scepter, which has an estimate of $5,000-$7,000. Also on offer are Chinese paintings and calligraphy by some of the top 20th-century masters, such as Zhang Daqian, Pan Tianshou, Yu Youren and Pu Ru.
