SOUTH SAN FRANCISCO, Calif. – Turner Auctions + Appraisals will present the Julianna Southall Glumac Collection on Sunday, Aug. 18, featuring a diverse and eclectic selection of artwork and decorative arts, mostly from the 18th-20th centuries. Mrs. Glumac, one of San Francisco’s finest antique dealers for 20 years, was owner and curator of Southall Antiques. Absentee and Internet live bidding is available through LiveAuctioneers.

The online auction offers 195 lots from Julianna Southall Glumac’s private collection and select items from her exquisitely curated shop. Acquired from her many travels at home and abroad for dealers and markets all over the United States and Europe, each piece in this collection was selected with an eye toward elegance and exceptional provenance. The collection includes items from a variety of American, European and Asian historical periods.

The collection’s extensive selection of artworks from the 19th and 20th centuries offers oils, watercolors, gouaches, mixed media, ink and lithographs. Artists include Carl Haefner and Carl Hugo Rudolf Jonas. Other items include tapestry fragments, gilt frame mirrors, photographs of Paris, colored butterfly prints, botanicals, crystal pieces, altar stick and other lamps, crystal chandeliers, 19th-century stoneware pots, several African pieces, console tables, books and catalogs. Among the statues and sculpture are a bronze head of Zeus and a bronze blackamoor replica. Sterling and silver-plated items include flatware, candlesticks, coffee and tea sets and trays.  The large selection of Asian items, mostly from China, includes Pu Ru calligraphy scrolls, jade carvings, teacups, a fluted dish, ginger and gourd jars, blue and white vases, cinnabar boxes, lions and a censer of hardstone, and amber necklaces.

The following are some highlights of the upcoming sale:

– Gouache on paper of dancers (above), 19½ inches high by 22½ inches in a 21½-by-24¾-inch frame with an auction label on the reverse: “Attributed to Boris Gregoiev.” Estimate:  $2,000-$3,000.

– A pair of Pu Ru (1896-1963) calligraphy scrolls, each measuring 39 inches high by 5½ inches wide.  Estimate: $7,000-$9,000.

– A late 18th/early 19th century Continental paper seven-panel screen, 88 inches high by 129½ inches wide, fair to good condition. Estimate: $1,500-$2,500.

– Oil painting by Carl Hugo Rudolf Jonas (1822-1888), 20 inches high by 16 inches in a 25½-by-21-inch frame. Estimate: $500-$700.

– A wire mesh purse with a 19th-century Chinese jade and silver handle depicting various animals, 5 inches high by 6 inches wide in a modern presentation box. Estimate: $2,000-$3,000.

– An 18th-century Continental gilt frame mirror, 17½ inches high by 14 inches wide in a 42-by-21-inch frame, with some loss to the gilding and mirror silver. Estimate: $500-$700.

– A 17th-century Continental tapestry fragment in good condition, 78 inches high by 43½ inches wide. Estimate: $1,500-$2,500.

– A Chinese fluted porcelain dish, Yung-Cheng Reign Mark (1723-1735), measuring 1½ inches by 7½ inches in diameter. Estimate: $800-1,200.

– A 19th century carved jade sculpture of cranes entwined in reeds, 3 inches high by 3½ inches wide by 2½ inches deep. Estimate: $2,000-$3,000.

– A Continental four-piece silver coffee and tea set marked 835, approximately 2000 grams. Estimate: $700-$900.

– Three Chinese blue and white vases. Two unmarked blue and white Chinese vases, measuring 13 ½ inches high by 6 inches in diameter and 11 inches high by 6 ½ inches in diameter; and one marked T’ung-Chih Tongzhi (1862-1874), measuring 10 inches high by 6 inches wide by 4½ inches deep (hairline crack to rim). Estimate: $300-500.
