Vintage buttons, brooches featured in online auction Sept. 2

NEW YORK – More than 200 lots of vintage buttons and brooches comprise much of a Jasper52 online auction that will be conducted Wednesday, Sept. 2. The collection ranges from the Victorian age to the mid-20th century. Additional vintage jewelry rounds out the sale catalog. Bid absentee or live online through LiveAuctioneers.

Starting with brooches, a 12K gold-filled Edwardian/Victorian chatelain brooch features a rose gold engraved shield design with a raised prong-set Rose of Sharon pressed purple glass oval stone with gold accents and two tassels. It carries a $90-$110 estimate.

A 14K gold Art Nouveau oval brooch with scrolled setting has an amethyst colored oval stone (below). It came from a Pennsylvania estate sale that had many pieces of fine jewelry from Victorian days to the 1970s (est. $250-$300).

Moving to buttons, a 44-piece lot of rhinestone buttons ranging from the Victorian era to Art Deco and in size from one-quarter to 1½ inches in diameter. They were part of a collection and are mounted on a plastic frame and felt display (est. $80-$100).

Twelve buttons on their original display card, new/old stock, date to the 1920s-1930s. The card is titled “Fashionable Buttons” and marked “Czecho-Slovakia.” It also pictures a sportily dressed young woman. The round three-eighth-inch round buttons are glass with a spiral gold finish textured design on top (est. $20-$30).

Single buttons include a large metal Victorian rose repoussé button with a dogwood center blossom at the center (est. $30-$40).

The Jasper52 auction will be held Tuesday, Sept. 2, beginning at 6 p.m. Eastern time.
