FT. LAUDERDALE, Fla. – Leave it to those lucky, sun-drenched Floridians at Wittlin & Serfer to find a reason to celebrate the fast-approaching autumn season. The forecast looks fine for their Sept. 13 End of Summer auction featuring 426 bold, color-splashed works by Andy Warhol (American, 1928-1987), Roy Lichtenstein (American, 1923-1997) and their contemporaries.

LiveAuctioneers.com will provide the Internet live-bidding component for this sale, which includes several iconic Warhols. His pencil-signed and numbered 1983 screenprint on Lenox Museum board titled Ingrid Bergman with Hat is from an edition of 250 pieces. The 38-inch-square artwork is referenced in the 2003 publication Andy Warhol Prints: A Catalogue Raisonné 1962-1987 by Feldman and Schellmann. The lot is expected to make $35,000-$45,000.

Warhol’s fondness for wildlife imagery is reflected in two lots, in particular. His vivid 1983 screenprint titled Siberian Tiger, 38 inches square, was produced in an edition of 150 pieces. The example in Wittlin & Serfer’s sale, which is pencil signed and numbered, is entered with a presale estimate of $55,000-$60,000.

The artist’s similarly sized, pencil-signed and numbered 1983 screenprint titled Black Rhinoceros, estimate $40,000-$45,000, also comes from an edition of 150 pieces. Both this artwork and Siberian Tiger are included in the above-referenced catalogue raisonné.

Roy Lichtenstein is represented by a signed and numbered 7-color woodcut titled Nude in the Woods, from his 1980 Expressionist Woodcuts series. Pencil signed and numbered, the 39¾-inch by 35¾-inch work is one of 50 created by the artist, and is referenced in The Prints of Roy Lichtenstein: A Catalogue Raisonné 1948-1997 by Mary Lee Corlett, Hudson Hills Press. The presale estimate is $25,000-$30,000.

A second Lichtenstein creation – a 21-color woodcut, screenprint and collage titled Imperfect – is pencil-signed and numbered and is from a 1988 edition of 45 pieces. Also listed in Lichtenstein’s catalogue raisonné, it could fetch $40,000-$50,000 at auction.
