HOUSTON – Morton Kuehnert will auction a couple’ collection of wildlife mounts in 33 lots on Saturday, March 12 beginning at noon Central. LiveAuctioneeers will provide Internet live bidding.

The auction will also include more than 500 lots of antiques and home furnishings. Participation in the auction is open to the public; also available are absentee bids, phone bids and online bidding at www.liveauctioneers.com.

Glen Bosma and his recently deceased wife, Sue, took their first African safari in Zimbabwe in1998. The couple brought back 19 animals and eight birds from that one hunt. For the next 12 months, taxidermists Mike Simpson of Conroe, Texas, and Carter Hood of Houston, created the mounts for the Bosmas.

“The hunt was expensive, the mounts were expensive,” said Bosma, “but the add-on to our lake house (to showcase the mounts) was by far the most expensive,” he said. Eighteen of the lots are from the Zimbabwe trophies.

The next hunt was in South Africa, June 2007. Bosma bagged a gemsbok antelope , but his focus was on birds. His wife, accompanied by a professional hunter, bagged a nyala antelope and a steenbok antelope. These were mounted by taxidermist David Majors of West Houston, Texas. Four lots are South African trophies.

The Bosmas also had numerous hunts in Canada and the United States, and 11 of the lots are from those hunts.

Highlights and their estimates include a wildebeest, $600-$700; two kudu, $500-$700 each; a bushbuck, $500-$700; a gemsbok, $300-$600; and a full zebra hide rug, $800-$1,200.
