DOUGLASS, Kan. – The outstanding private collection of Dr. Peter and Grace Jochimsen – a bountiful selection of some of the best Wave Crest and French cameo pieces available, plus other fine items – will be sold without reserve on Saturday, October 23 by Woody Auction, starting at 9 am Central time. Absentee and Internet live bidding will be available through LiveAuctioneers.
The Wave Crest features plaques, jardinieres, bells, boxes and vases, while the collection also boasts French cameo, plated Amberina, pink agata, slot machines, a Pairpoint lamp and a Thomas Webb & Sons English cameo.
Signed Galle French cameo art glass vases are always a hit with collectors. Up for bid will be a blown mold example in white, yellow and green tones, having a green cameo carved vine and blossom decor, and another with blown mold cherry branch decor and yellow and white ground with finely cameo carved cranberry overlay. Both are beautiful, and both are estimated at $4,000-$8,000.
Two English cameo art glass cologne bottles signed Thomas Webb and Sons should send paddles skyward. One takes a square form, and has a yellow ground with cranberry and white cameo carved floral vine decor, and estimated at $3,000-$5,000; the other is frosted with white cameo carved overlay of a nice lattice and floral design, and is estimated at $2,000-$4,000.
An A. Walter Nancy pate-de-verre French art glass bowl featuring panels of pinecones and beetles and wonderful colors of yellow, blue and green carries an estimate of $2,500-$5,000.
Also on offer is a Tiffany Studios art glass flower form vase, 16in tall, having an elegant bronze base and stem holding an art glass bloom of lavender and opal pulled feather design, estimated at $2,500-$5,000.
Another head-turning lot is an unmarked Royal Flemish by Mt. Washington art glass vase with griffin and dragon enamel decor. It carries an estimate of $2,000-$4,000.
A pink agata art glass pitcher by New England features exceptional mottling with a ribbed and decorated applied handle, and is estimated at $1,500-$3,000. Rounding out the highlights is a Mt. Washington Burmese art glass ginger jar with a vintage motif showing the words to the Robert Burns poem Auld Lang Syne (“Should Auld Acquaintance Be Forgot and Never Brough to Mind”), with the original paper label. It is estimated at $1,500-$3,000.
