LOS ANGELES – A collection of powerful works by Yaacov Agam, Ernie Barnes, Jean Dubuffet, Ed Ruscha and Fritz Scholder comes to Abell Auction Co. as part of the Exceptional Modern Art and California Estates sale on Sunday, September 25. Live bidding for the online auction starts at 9 am Pacific time. Absentee and Internet live bidding will be available through LiveAuctioneers.

Leading the sale will be a Yaacov Agam double-sided polymorph window installation from the famous Spreckels Theater in San Diego, California.

The mosaic-like stained-glass window, measuring 20 feet long, once adorned the entrance of the performing arts theater and was commissioned in 1983 by theater president Jacquelyn Littlefield. The unique piece carries an estimate of $200,000-$300,000.

Also featured will be Pool Hall, an oil on canvas by famed NFL football player and artist Ernie Barnes, which was, interestingly enough, purchased at Abell Auction in 1983, according to its lot notes. Pool Hall has an estimate of $100,000-$150,000.

Jean Dubuffet’s Site avec 3 personnages, a vibrantly colored 1981 acrylic on paper mounted to canvas, will be offered with an estimate of $150,000-$200,000. In addition, Made in California, Ed Ruscha’s iconic 1971 lithograph in colors on Arches paper, appears in the September 25 sale lineup estimated at $60,000-$80,000.

Another strong offering is Fritz Scholder’s 1992 acrylic-on-canvas Man & Dog No. 1. It measures a generous 80 by 68in and is estimated at $40,000-$60,000.

Collections from the California estates of Hollywood producer Mace Neufeld, art collector Juliet McIver, real estate developer Richard Kelton, and founder and C.E.O. of the Karpeles Manuscript Library Museum, Montecito David Karpeles also will be offered.

Other sale highlights include original works of art by Larry Bell, Harry Bertoia, Eugene von Blaas, Mary Ann Corse, Paul Gauguin, Morris Graves, Andre Hambourg, Paul Jacoulet, Norman Rockwell and Roland Strasser, as well as prints and multiples by Marc Chagall, Richard Diebenkorn, Alberto Giacometti, Sam Francis, David Hockney, Ellsworth Kelly, Roy Lichtenstein, Joan Miro, Shiko Munakata, Pablo Picasso, Robert Rauschenberg and Andy Warhol.

The sale lineup will also feature Latin American art by Miguel Covarrubias, Jose Luis Cuevas, Carlos Merida, David Alfaro Siqueiros, Rodolfo Morales, Diego Rivera and Rufino Tamayo.

Its selection of furniture and furnishings will include pieces by Karl Springer, Philip and Kelvin Laverne, Josef Hoffmann, Carlo Scarpa, Hans Hopfer for Roche Bobois and Edward Wormley for Dunbar.

Other notable items including a 1976 Rolls-Royce Silver Wraith, an electric 2018 BMW 530E, an Audemars Piguet Royal Oak watch, pianos by Steinway and Sons and Yamaha and a collection of Tiffany Studios lamps.
