NEW YORK — Arader Galleries has announced its annual Summer Sale, featuring competitive prices on the gallery’s renowned collection of Audubon prints, original Retouté watercolors and rare views of New York. Online bidding will close on Saturday, June 13. Bidding will be available absentee and live online through LiveAuctioneers.

The Summer Sale offers 167 lots, with estimates ranging $300-$200,000. In addition to the impressive Audubon prints (Lots 1-42) and watercolors by Retouté (Lots 43-53), the opening portion of the sale includes natural history watercolors by acclaimed artists Barbara Regina Dietzsch (Lots 54-57), Louis Agassiz Fuertes (Lot 60) and Mararet Mee (Lots 62-64).

The three works by Margaret Mee feature the artist’s meticulous studies on the Brazilian flowers in original gouche and watercolor over graphite: Orchid Sobralia (Lot 62), the White Bombax Flower (Lot 63) and the Catasetum Saccatum (Lot 64).

The second half of the auction contains a superb selection of New York material, including two watercolor views of New York City and surrounding areas (Lots 70 & 71) by William Birch (1755-1834). The New York segment of the sale continues with nostalgic prints by Currier & Ives, city views by William J. Bennett (1784-1844) and works from “The Hudson River Portfolio” (Lots 86-89) by William G. Wall. To close this portion of the sale, Arader offers rare books and maps by David H. Burr (Lots 69 & 70) and many others.

For the third section of the sale, Arader presents over 50 lots of rare maps and books, including an iconic collection of maps by Braun and Hogenberg (lots 136-145). Also offered is an exquisite woodcut engraving by Claudius Ptolemaeus (c. 83 – 168 A.D.), which is not only the first modern map of the Holy Land, but also part of the first atlas printed illustrated by woodcut maps (Lot 132).
