BROOKLYN, N.Y. – Two complementing pieces from street artists El Sol and LMNOP bring life to a brick wall in Williamsburg. The two images, both of African-American little girls, reflect on the diversity of the area.

El Sol 25’s wheat pasting of a half black, half white girl with four arms, demonstrates his talent at matching up various images to create something entirely enigmatic and mesmerizing. Pulling together pictures he collects from magazines and other sources, El Sol 25 then hand paints his own composite to create a masterpiece on every wall he pastes on. This little girl represents a slightly more visual coherent combination, if not more politically powerful, than some of El Sol 25’s other works around the neighborhood, which often pair human heads with pop icons. His poster came second, as the figure’s elbow imposes on LMNOP’s girl’s space.

A Brooklyn-resident and political activist, LMNOP is known for creating images that nod to broad social injustices. Her poster is inspired by a Haitian child she met working on a project to build geodesic domes for 10 orphanages in Port Au Prince.

Together the two wheat pastings represent how street collaboration can come without a formal partnership, reinforcing themes important to each artist.
