NEW YORK – I walked by the office space on Delancey and Attorney streets countless times on my way to the F train wondering what was going on in the open-plan office within. There was even a beautiful black cat wondering around the space for a few months, which I may or may not have been plotting to steal.

In fact this mysterious space is the New York office of G-Tects, an architecture firm. A British creative agency called Test Space, in collaboration with MILES and UK charity East Side Arts, paid a visit to the Lower East Side at the end of last year, bringing with it a huge mural by street artists Sest2 and Lady Millard.

Smaller pieces by Ferres, Pogger, International Nobody and Andrew Corlett surround the larger mural on the offices’ exterior wall, which is now adorned with a large green dragon, whose body curves around a series of women’s faces. That body is mostly green, with a white underside and what looks like red fins, perhaps just in case the dragon feels the need to swim. There is also lavender paint dripping from said fins. The women’s faces, grouped in clusters underneath the curves of the dragon’s tail, are ghost-white but outlined in black, with red lips, eyes and eyebrows.

The dragon doesn’t appear to have eyes, which cuts down on the scariness a little, though its long body is big enough to curl around the sea of faces, which is still intimidating. You still wouldn’t want to make this dragon angry, but you don’t have to worry if you pass it on the street.
