 Jean Puiforcat vases, $28,750, Andrew Jones

A pair of French standard silver and ruby glass vases designed by Jean Puiforcat of Paris sold for $28,750 at a Design for the Home & Garden Auction held Nov. 18 by Andrew Jones Auctions in Los Angeles. Also, a pair of diamond, ruby and 18K gold ear clips by Van Cleef & Arpels brought $13,750; a Rolex Steve McQueen Explorer II stainless steel watch made $17,500; and an oil on canvas landscape by Albert Birerstadt (German/American, 1830-1901) hit $8,750.

Gainsborough portrait oil study, $103,125, Woodshed Art Auctions

An oil portrait study by Thomas Gainsborough (British, 1727-1788) for his painting The Honourable Mrs. Graham, sold for $103,125 at Woodshed Art Auctions in Franklin, Mass., on Nov. 1. Also, an oil on canvas by a follower of Edward Hopper (American, 1882-1967), titled Office at Night, brought $7,500; and a tempera on paper attributed to Claude Monet (French, 1840-1926), Winter Landscape, rose to $3,900.

Birger Sandzén oil painting, $39,000, Woody Auction

An oil on board painting by Birger Sandzén (Swedish-American, 1871-1954), titled In Boulder Canyon, Colorado, sold for $39,000 at an auction held Nov. 9-10 by Woody Auction in Douglass, Kan. Also, a seven-piece solid sterling silver tea service by the Loring Andrews Co., Cincinnati, Ohio, knocked down for $14,000; an English cameo figural swan head laydown perfume bottle realized $5,500; and an English cranberry opalescent art glass two-tier epergne made $5,500. Prices quoted are hammer.

Michigan mining stock certificate, $5,250; Holabird Western Americana

A stock certificate for the American Mining Co. in Michigan, issued in 1902 to R.H. Rickard for 29 shares, sold for $5,250 at a Cornucopia of Collectibles Auction held Oct. 18-22 by Holabird Western Americana Collections in Reno, Nevada. Also, a flint glass Old Tea Cup Whiskey bar back bottle, San Francisco, Nevada, from the 1880s, 11 inches tall, fetched $1,875; and a pair of four-coin sets of American Eagle gold bullion coins, from 1991 and 1992, gaveled for $5,423.

Edward Moran oil painting, $112,500, Shannon’s

An oil on canvas painting by Edward Moran (American, 1829-1901), titled The Winning Yacht, circa 1877, signed, sold for $112,500 at an American and European Fine Art Auction held Oct. 25 by Shannon’s Fine Art Auctioneers in Milford, Conn. Also, an oil on canvas by Alfred S. Mira (American, 1900-1981), titled Washington Square Park, hit $81,250; and an oil on canvas by Walter Schofield (American, 1867-1944), titled Winter Landscape, went for $75,000.

Yaacov Agam artwork, $13,750, Crescent City

A color relief multiple mounted in a Lucite shadowbox on a painted wood backing by Yaacov Agam (Israeli, b. 1928), titled Black Hole (1980), signed, sold for $13,750 at an estates auction held Nov. 16-18 by Crescent City Auction Gallery in New Orleans. Also, an oil on canvas by Kumi Sugai (Japanese, 1919-1996), titled Hiver, 1956, went for $10,625; and a Russian enamel on silver cigarette case commemorating Ukranian independence, 1908-1917, made $6,875.

‘Ghostbusters’ film prop, $71,390, Hake’s Auctions

A ‘Ghost Trap’ film prop used in the films Ghostbusters (1984) and Ghostbusters II (1989), based on an idea by actor and comedian Dan Aykroyd, sold for $71,390 at an auction held Nov. 13-15 by Hake’s Auctions in York, Pa. Also a Star Wars: Droids–Vlix encapsulated action figure, released only in Brazil in 1988, AFA-graded 60 EX, changed hands for $45,430; and a Star Wars Death Star Canadian special-offer cardboard playset, AFA graded 85NM+, went for $31,801.

Red Hat porcelain gas sign, $66,000, Morphy Auctions

A Red Hat Royal 400 Gasoline porcelain sign with red hat graphic sold for $66,000 at an Automobilia & Petroliana Auction held Oct. 8 by Morphy Auctions in Denver, Pennsylvania. Also, a 1913 Indian Model 30.50 motorcycle, serial #E43213, sped off for $45,000; a Houston Gasoline porcelain sign with graphic of Sam Houston on horseback achieved $33,600; and a Wayne Roman Column 10-gallon visible gas pump, restored in Sinclair Gasoline colors, rose to $30,750.

‘Casablanca’ movie poster, $102,000, Heritage Auctions

A Casablanca (Warner Brothers, 1942) insert sold for $102,000 at a movie posters auction held Nov. 17-18 by Heritage Auctions in Dallas. Also, a Thunderball (United Artists, 1965) full-bleed British quad fetched $24,000; a Breakfast at Tiffany’s (Paramount, 1961) Italian four-fogli garnered $22,800; a Superman Cartoon (Paramount, 1941) stock one sheet made $20,400; and a Creature from the Black Lagoon (Universal International, 1954) poster hit $19,200.

Indo-Portuguese cabinet, $37,500, Doyle

An elaborately inlaid Indo-Portuguese cabinet on a stand dating to the late 17th/early 18th century, sold for $37,500 at an auction of English & Continental Furniture & Decorative Arts held Oct. 31 by Doyle in New York City. Also, a rococo giltwood console table, possibly Austrian, went for $16,250; an imperial German silver flatware service by Johann Wagner & Sohn, circa 1900, made $10,000; and a group of three English sterling silver royal presentation frames hit $10,000.

Alice Rahon painting, $23,750, John Moran

An oil on canvas painting by Alice Rahon (French-Mexican, 1904-1987), titled Boite a Musique III, 1945, 10 inches by 12 inches, sold for $23,750 at a Women in Art Auction held Oct. 23 by John Moran Auctioneers in Monrovia, Calif. Also, an oil, graphite and charcoal on canvas by Susan Hertel (New Mexico, 1930-1993), titled Interior with woman and dogs, 43¾ inches by 52¼ inches, brought $21,250; and The Young Chief by Kathryn Leighton (American, 1875-1952) rose to $22,500.

Babe Ruth rookie card, $220,950, Goldin Auctions

A 1916 M101-5 blank back #151 Babe Ruth rookie baseball card sold for $220,950 at a Legends Auction that closed Oct. 27 by Goldin Auctions, based in Runnemede, N.J. Also, James Naismith’s 1891 Founding Rules of Basketball from his 1934 manuscript, with hand notations, netted $171,850; Kareem Abdul-Jabbar’s 1970-71 Milwaukee Bucks championship ring breezed to $153,437; and a 1969/1970 Topps #20 John Havlicek rookie card hammered for $100,655.

Houdini-owned handcuffs, $11,400, Potter & Potter

A pair of Providence Tool Co. handcuffs and key, with provenance tracing the ownership from the Houdini family onward, sold for $11,400 at a Houdini Auction held Oct. 20 by Potter & Potter Auctions in Chicago. Also, a book titled Magic Made Easy by Houdini, King of Cards changed hands for $9,600; a Blooming Orange Tree automaton and music box brought $9,000; and a copy of The Famous Houdini, The Original Jail Breaker and Hand Cuff King went for $7,200.

JFK’s Harvard sweater, $34,140, RR Auction

John F. Kennedy’s sweater from his days as a student at Harvard sold for $34,140 in an online Fine Autographs & Artifacts Auction Nov. 7 by RR Auction in Boston. Also, JFK’s handwritten notes on Vietnam brought $24,504; and JFK and Jackie’s wedding altar railing gate from St. Mary’s Church netted $16,541.

Michael Jackson jacket, $298,000, Julien’s Auctions

Michael Jackson’s signed and worn “Bad” world tour jacket sold for $298,000 at an Icons & Idols: Rock-n-Roll Auction held Nov. 9-10 by Julien’s Auctions in Los Angeles. Also, the last guitar that Prince ever played on stage soared to $156,250; Madonna’s Desperately Seeking Susan jacket and luggage case finished at $128,125; and a Bill Blass gown ensemble worn onstage by Aretha Franklin at a 1993 concert made $10,000.

Philip Zec LMS poster, $17,500, Swann Auction

Philip Zec’s 1932 poster titled By Night Train to Scotland for LMS sold for $17,500 at a travel posters auction held Oct. 25 by Swann Auction Galleries in New York City. Also, Emil Cardinaux’s St. Moritz from 1918 also commanded $17,500; Burkhard Mangold’s Winter-in-Davos, 1914, realized $16,250; Andrew Johnson’s North Berwick / It’s Quicker by Rail, circa 1930, hit $16,250; and Adolph Treidler’s New York / Wonder City of the World, 1927, gaveled for $13,750.

Van Cleef & Arpels bracelet, $54,000, Michaan’s Auctions

A French Van Cleef & Arpels diamond, 18K yellow gold bracelet sold for $54,000 at an auction held Nov, 10 by Michaan’s Auctions in Alameda, California. Also, an oil on board painting by Fernando Cueto Amorsolo (Filipino, 1892-1972), titled Man with Cockerel, 1939, coasted to $51,000; an acrylic on canvas by Ed (Edward) Moses (California, 1926-2018), titled Orroz, went for $12,000; and a handsomely carved rosewood display cabinet commanded $6,600.

Remington’s The Rattlesnake, $225,000, Leslie Hindman

Frederic Remington’s bronze sculpture titled The Rattlesnake, portraying a cowboy and his startled horse, sold for $225,000 at an Arts of the American West Auction held Nov. 9-10 by Leslie Hindman Auctioneers in Chicago. Also, Olaf Wiegorst’s painting titled Buckin’ for Bucks garnered $68,750; a Thomas C. Molesworth club chair and ottoman also changed hands for $68,750; and a Navajo Second Phase variant chief’s blanket went to a determined bidder for $57,500.

Virginia blanket chest, $24,570, Jeffrey S. Evans

An important Wythe County, Virginia, paint-decorated poplar blanket chest sold for $24,570 at an Americana & Fine Antiques Auction held Nov. 8-10 by Jeffrey S. Evans & Associates in Mount Crawford, Va. Also, a Henry Clay slate blue pressed open salt fetched $22,230; a pair of Guilford Limner, North Carolina, portraits sold as one lot for $11,700; a Great Road decorated earthen jar realized $11,700; and a Washington colorless cup plate went to a determined bidder for $14,040.

Pair of Tiffany candelabra, $52,275, Clars Auction

A pair of American sterling silver candelabra, designed by Paulding Farnham for Tiffany & Co., circa 1902-1907, sold for $52,275 at a Decorative & Fine Arts Auction held Nov. 18 by Clars Auction Gallery in Oakland, California. Also, a pair of monumental gilt bronze mounted Sevres polychrome decorated urns fetched $49,200; Andy Warhol’s Mao, 1972, a screenprint image of the Chinese leader, netted $46,125; and a Robert Longo (American, b. 1953) lithograph made $46,125.
