Chinese porcelain stand, $100,000, Millea Brothers
An Imperial Chinese Qing dynasty porcelain reticulated stand sold for $100,000 at an auction held Dec. 7-9 by Millea Brothers in Boonton, N.J. Also, a gold-mounted violin bow, attributed to Dominique Peccatte, circa 1845, realized $90,625; a Chinese Qing dynasty carved red lacquer chest breezed to $38,750; and a pale celadon jade moon flask carved with low relief scenes of blossoming trees gaveled for $32,500. Prices include a 25 percent buyer’s premium.

Wayne Thiebaud painting, $1.08 million, Nadeau’s
An oil on board painting by Wayne Thiebaud (American, b. 1920), titled Lollipop Tree (1969), sold for $1.08 million at an annual New Year’s Day auction held Jan. 1 by Nadeau’s Auction Gallery in Windsor, Conn. Also, an Old Master 16th- or 17th-century oil on wood panel painting of Jesus carrying the cross coasted to $174,000; an art glass mosaic vase by Ercole Barovier (Italian, 1888-1974), made $108,000; and a Rolex Oyster Daytona Cosmograph engraved tachymeter watch hit $46,800. Prices include the buyer’s premium.

John Paul Miller brooch/pendant, $60,500, Rachel Davis Fine Arts
An elegant 18K gold and enamel octopus pendant/brooch by John Paul Miller sold for $60,500 at a Fine & Decorative Arts Auction held Dec. 9 by Rachel Davis Fine Arts in Cleveland. Also, another creation by Miller, a sterling and enamel brooch with a fish design, brought $5,745; a group of 14 Chinese coin holders (no coins) fetched $5,140; and an early 19th-century American needlepoint on silk mourning textile by Phebe Swan hammered for $2,420. Prices include the buyer’s premium.

John Folinsbee oil painting, $165,200, Ahlers & Ogletree
An oil on canvas painting by John Fulton Folinsbee (American, 1892-1972), titled River at New Hope, sold for $165,200 at a Signature Estates Auction held Jan. 6-7 by Ahlers & Ogletree Auction Gallery in Atlanta. Also, an 18K gold, emerald and diamond necklace pendant rose to $35,400; a hand-painted French china dinner service designed by Van Day Truex (American, 1904-1979) for Tiffany & Co. brought $12,400; and a Qing dynasty porcelain Tianqiuping vase went for $3,025. Prices include the buyer’s premium.

Jasper F. Cropsey landscape, $38,400, Woodshed Art Auctions
An untitled Luminist style landscape painting attributed to Hudson River School artist Jasper F. Cropsey (American, 1823-1900) sold for $38,400 at a Private Collection Discoveries auction held online Dec. 28 by Woodshed Art Auctions, Franklin, Mass. Also, an oil on wood panel attributed to Claude Monet (French, 1840-1926), titled Les Nymphaes, realized $16,200; and an oil on canvas by Edward Moran (British/ American, 1829-1901), titled A Shipwreck (1860), went for $12,000. Prices include the buyer’s premium.

Enrique Alferez sculpture, $13,750, Bruneau & Co.
A bronze sculpture by Mexican-born realist Enrique Alferez (Louisiana/Texas, 1901-1999), titled The Bather (1983), 8 ¼ inches tall, sold for $13,750 at a Winter Antiques & Fine Arts Auction held Jan. 6 by Bruneau & Co. Auctioneers in Cranston, R.I. Also, an oil on canvas still life tabletop painting of fruit by Robert Spear Dunning (Massachusetts, 1829-1905) realized $3,438; a Black Forest open bookcase with a carved bear figure on each of the four shelves rose to $6,875; a Charles Wilder barometer made $2,074; and a Chinese Ming vase brought $3,438. Prices include the buyer’s premium.

Thoreau first-edition book, $14,400, PBA Galleries
A first edition copy of Henry David Thoreau’s seminal work, Walden: Or, Life in the Woods, sold for $14,400 at an auction held Jan. 11 by PBA Galleries in San Francisco. Also, a first issue copy of John Steinbeck’s equally important literary classic, Of Mice and Men, in the original pictorial dust jacket in fine condition, changed hands for $4,800; and a copy of an early state of the first American edition of Mark Twain’s The Adventures of Huckleberry Finn made $7,200. Prices include the buyer’s premium.

Cowboy bronze, $5,000, Holabird Western Americana
A bronze depiction of a cowboy on horseback by the California sculptor Betty Saletta sold for $5,000 at an auction held Jan. 20-21 by Holabird Western Americana Collections LLC in Reno, Nevada. Also, a War Eagle 25-cent “one-armed bandit” slot machine from the 1930s fetched $2,875; a mint condition A.B. Stewart & Co. (Virginia City, Nevada) drug store bottle from 1877 realized $2,250; and a scrimshaw cup made from a carved horn around 1802 brought $1,312. Prices include the buyer’s premium.

Simon Willard tall-case clock, $48,800, Grogan & Co.
A Simon Willard tall case clock chimed on time for $48,800 at an auction held Dec. 7 by Grogan & Co. in Boston. Also, a Chinese silk and metallic thread signature carpet realized $21,960; an E. Howard & Co. no. 10 figure eight wall clock fetched $8,540; a Brussels historical tapestry measuring 11 feet 7 inches by 15 feet 4 inches changed hands for $17,080; and a gorgeous Bakshaish carpet measuring 12 feet 9 inches by 11 feet rolled out at $16,500. Prices include a 22 percent buyer’s premium.

Ansel Adams portfolio, $51,425, Clars Auction
A portfolio of 15 gelatin silver prints by Ansel Adams (American, 1902-1984), titled Portfolio Four: What Majestic Word, in Memory of Russell Varian, sold for $51,425 at an auction held Jan. 21 by Clars Auction Gallery in Oakland, Calif. Also, an oil on canvas painting by the Italian master Gaetano Bellei (1857-1922), Untitled (The Card Game), made $27,830; an Asian wood Buddha realized $14,520; and a Cartier amethyst, turquoise and diamond 18K gold bird brooch hit $19,360. Prices include the buyer’s premium.

11.12-carat emerald, $705,000, Doyle
An 11.12-carat Colombian emerald sold for $705,000 at an Important Jewelry Auction held Dec. 13 by Doyle in New York City. Also, a brooch centering a Colombian emerald of about 6.43 carats, surrounded by diamonds, soared to $162,500; an Art Deco Tutti Frutti vase de fleurs pendant lapel-watch realized $106,250; a cultured pearl necklace with a Colombian emerald clasp rose to $93,750; and a French circa 1948 ‘Lawn’ bracelets/necklace combination made $87,500. Prices include the buyer’s premium.
