Voltamp ‘Edna’ tram, $21,240, Bertoia Auctions

A circa-1910 Voltamp No. 2116 “Edna” interurban toy tram, 16 1/2 inches long and an early version, with an olive green painted body and a wood floor, sold for $21,240 at a toys, trains and banks auction held May 8-9 by Bertoia Auctions in Vineland, N.J. Also, a Hubley Packard Straight-Eight cast-iron sedan sped off for $16,520; a dealer display replicating Hispano-Suiza sedan with visible interior coasted to $12,980; a Buddy “L” pressed steel tugboat made $11,800; and a Marklin Steeple Cab V 1020 hit $10,030. Prices include a 20.5 percent buyer’s premium.

1987 Porsche 911 Turbo, $79,500, Ahlers & Ogletree

A rare 1987 Porsche 911 Turbo Carrera sports car, white with black leather interior and just 61,000 miles on the odometer, sped off for $79,500 at a Spring Salon Auction held May 2-3 by Ahlers & Ogletree in Atlanta. Also, a matching pair of English 20th century malachite and sterling silver vases, 13 1/4 inches tall, of hexagonal form, brought $13,000; and a Chinese Qing Dynasty landscape motif porcelain cylindrical form brush pot, probably made in the 20th century, 4 1/4 inches tall, gaveled for $9,500. Prices are exclusive of the buyer’s premium.

Howard & Davis clock, $151,250, Fontaine’s

A Howard & Davis astronomical regulator clock sold for $151,250 at auction held May 30 by Fontaine’s Auction Gallery in Pittsfield, Mass. Also, an R.J. Horner mahogany grandfather clock made $60,500; a one-year Biedermeier Laterndluhr wall regulator fetched $36,300; a French industrial water wheel clock reached $30,250; a Juvet tabletop time globe made circa 1883 topped out at $19,360; and a glass dial mystery clock attributed to Robert Houdin changed hands for $16,335. Prices include a 21 percent buyer’s premium.

Chinese automaton clock, $526,750, S & S Auction

A rare 19th century Chinese gilt bronze with enamel automaton clock boasting elaborate jewel work and originally made for the Chinese Imperial market sold for $526,750 at a two-day, two-session auction held May 17-18 by S & S Auction Inc., in Repaupo, N.J. Also, a pair of Victorian burl walnut, rosewood and ebonized wood pedestals with porcelain plaques showing hand-painted putti finished at $18,375; and a pair of 13-inch-tall 18th century Continental bronze mounted vases brought $7,962. Prices include a 22.5 percent buyer’s premium.

19th century Russian icon, $17,080, Crescent City

A 19th century Russian icon of St. Nicholas with a silver oklad and the cyrillic maker’s mark of “AC” (for Alexei Stepanov, Moscow), sold for $17,080 at an estates auction held June 20-21 by Crescent City Auction Gallery in New Orleans. Another 19th century Russian icon, this depicting St. Yakov, garnered $14,640. Also, an oil on canvas painting signed “W. Beaumont” and titled Gypsy Girl With Brass Vase, reached $9,760; and a circa 1820 French Restoration gilt bronze figural mantel clock hit $6,100. Prices include an 18.5 percent buyer’s premium.

Mills double Dewey slot, $41,310, James D. Julia

A massive and rare Mills double Dewey slot machine that allows players to wager both nickels and quarters on the same unit sold for $41,310 at an Antique Advertising, Toy & Doll Auction held June 19 by James D. Julia Auctioneers in Fairfield, Maine. Also, a rare Caille Busy Bee trade stimulator went out at $27,337; an all-original Western Union ticker tape machine with aged brass components realized $11,542; and a lovely French 26-inch-tall EJA Jumeau doll with piercing blue eyes knocked down at $10,327. Prices include an 18.5 percent buyer’s premium.

Jupiter Robot with box, $36,000, Morphy Auctions

A Jupiter Robot in the original box and retaining its original sky blue plastic remote control sold for $36,000 at a toy auction held May 30-31 by Morphy Auctions in Denver, Pa. Also, a Tippco Santa Car with original Christmas feather tree cargo soared to $30,000; a Space Cycle in the original box with Japanese writing fetched $21,000; a Distler No. 85 racer with driver and “balloon” tires marked “Dunlop Cord” roared away for $21,000; and a Linemar Popeye and Olive Oyl tank with original box made $16,800. Prices include a 20 percent buyer’s premium.

Pour Le Merite medal, $28,800, Kaminski Auctions

A Pour Le Merite (Blue Max) medal, awarded during World War I to German fighter pilot Max Immelman, who brought down eight enemy aircraft, sold for $28,800 at an auction held May 31 by Kaminski Auctions in Beverly, Mass. Also, a World War I Luftwaffe Honor goblet from the same collection went for $18,000; one lot of two paintings on copper by Theophile Soyer (French, 1853-1940) brought $9,900; and cowboy Rex Trailer’s hand-tooled parade saddle work by his steed Goldrush hit $4,200. Prices include a 20 percent buyer’s premium.

N.C. Wyeth painting, $353,000, Freeman’s

A painting by N.C. Wyeth titled However, At Last I Taught Him to Call Me by My Name Very Familiarly, an animated painting that was used as the cover illustration for Daniel Defoe’s classic book Robinson Crusoe, sold for $353,000 at an American Art & Pennsylvania Impressionists Auction held June 7 by Freeman’s in Philadelphia. Also, Robert Spencer’s The Little Village made $341,000; Edward Willis Redfield’s The Road to Centre Bridge brought $233,000; and Daniel Garber’s autumnal Shadows rose to $209,000. Prices include a 20 percent buyer’s premium.

Ford late-surrealist work, $95,200, Clars Auction

An untitled late-surrealist 1945 painting by Gordon Onslow Ford (American/British, 1912-2003), sold for $95,200 at an auction held May 30-31 by Clars Auction Gallery in Oakland, Calif. Also, a yellow diamond and near-colorless diamond ring with a rectangular modified brilliant cut diamond weighing 7.52 carats finished at $71,400; a pair of bronze Allegorical Maquettes by Daniel Chester French (American, 1850-1931) realized $47,600; and an untitled work by Giorgio Cavallon (American, 1904-1989), from 1948, hit $38,675. Prices include a 19 percent buyer’s premium.

Gerard Delano painting, $10,200, John Moran

A Native American-themed painting by Colorado artist Gerard Curtis Delano (1890-1972), titled In Enemy Country, sold for $10,200 at an American West Auction held May 30 by John Moran Auctioneers in Altadena, Calif. Also, a mid-20th century Navajo Teec Nos Pos tapestry garnered $9,600; an untitled bronze by New York sculptor Charles Henry Humphriss (1867-1934) went for $6,000; a Rio Grande Pueblo dance kilt brought $4,800; and a Plateria Cecilia amethyst and turquoise-set silver collar made $780. Prices include a 20 percent buyer’s premium.

Van Briggle early Lorelai vase, $274,000, Rago Arts & Auction

An early (1902) Lorelai vase by Van Briggle sold for $274,000 at a 20th Century Decorative Arts & Design Auction held June 5-7 by Rago Arts & Auction Center in Lambertville, N.J. Also, a University City tile panel by Frederick H. Rhead coasted to $250,000; a fine Emile Galle sideboard titled Epis de Ble earned $103,125; a Marblehead tile by Arthur Baggs brought $100,000; an important chandelier by Dale Chihuly went for $200,000; and a Donald Judd prototype for a portfolio case sold for $41,250. Prices include a 25 percent buyer’s premium.

Kesi-woven figural panel, $41,300, Michaan’s Auctions

A Kesi-woven figural panel made in the 19th century went for $41,300 at an estates auction featuring fine art, decorative arts, Asian art and estate jewelry held June 13 by Michaan’s Auctions in Alameda, Calif. Also, a set of four Tibetan Buddhist carved wood Sutra covers changed hands for $7,080; and a Brutalist School sculpture of a man, fabricated out of recycled printing press parts, attributed to the noted Bay Area artist Don Sternberg (born in 1970), crossed the finish line for $4,425. Prices include a 17 percent buyer’s premium.

Chippendale dining table, $12,650, Carlsen Gallery

An 18th century walnut Chippendale drop leaf dining table sold for $12,650 at an auction held June 14 by Carlsen Gallery in Freehold, N.Y. Also, a nine-tube Walter Durfee movement tall clock sold for $8,625; a Gustav Stickley Craftsman Mission oak six-drawer chest fetched $6,612; an oil on canvas painting signed “W. L. Metcalf” and titled South Portland Heights brought $6,037; a 1.9-carat diamond solitaire rose to $5,750; and a late 18th/early 19th century marble garden urn went for $5,750. Prices include a 15 percent buyer’s premium.

Ronald Reagan letter, $14,492, RR Auction

A one-page letter typed on White House stationery, dated Nov. 21, 1988 and signed “Ron” (for then-President Ronald Reagan) sold for $14,492 at a Fine Autographs and Artifacts Auction held online May 21 thru June 17 by RR Auction, based in Boston. The letter was written to the Reagan-supporting Democrat Phil Regan. Also, a letter from Claude Monet to artist Jules Cheret regarding Manet’s controversial painting Olympia brought $23,072; and the original contract to purchase Graceland changed hands for $22,689. Prices include a 22.5 percent buyer’s premium.

Tiffany Studios floor lamp, $131,000, Heritage Auctions

A Tiffany Studios Peony Border bronze floor lamp sold for $131,000 at a fine and decorative arts auction held June 19-21 by Heritage Auctions in Dallas. Also, a Tiffany Studios turtleback tile bronze floor lamp lit up the room for $106,250; an Apulian volute-krater from the fourth century B.C. attributed to the Group of Copenhagen 4233 went for $45,000; a Tiffany Studios Roman table lamp on a gilt bronze stick base, circa 1910, brought $32,500; and a Tiffany Studios Apple Blossom table lamp made $20,000. Prices include a 25 percent buyer’s premium.

Necklace and earrings set, $56,250, Litchfield County Auctions

An emerald, diamond and platinum necklace (shown), with matching earrings, sold for a combined $56,250 at an auction held May 26-June 3 by Litchfield County Auctions in Litchfield, Conn. Also, Excalibur 5 by Enrico Donati coasted to $33,750; two Art Deco vases by Rene Bertrand hammered for a combined $13,250; a pair of bronze pumas by Arthur Putnam reached $7,406; a salt and pepper set by Georg Jensen realized $3,187; and a circa 1910 carousel horse by M.C. Illions went for $2,125. Prices include a 25 percent buyer’s premium.

Chefoo Bank $2 banknote, $8,430, Archives International

A circa 1900 Chefoo Bank $2 issued private banknote sold for $8,430 at an auction held May 24 by Archives International Auctions in Hong Kong. Also, a 1910 Russo-Asiatic Bank Harbin Branch provisional issue $100 banknote hammered for $6,896; an Imperial Bank of China 1898 Peking Branch 10 Taels note realized $4,904; a 1919 American-Oriental Banking Corp. $100 Shanghai Branch issue specimen commanded $4,291; and a Mercantile Bank of India 1937 issue banknote for $10 rose to $4,598. Prices include an 18 percent buyer’s premium.
