An early 20th-century pair of Continental electroplate 10-light candelabra sold for $29,520 at an Important Estates Auction held Jan. 22-23 by St. Charles Gallery Inc., in New Orleans. Also, an early 20th-century Chinese carved ivory figure of a Buddhist deity rang out at $15,375; a 19th-century Chinese bronze figure of a seated Buddha breezed to $7,687; a 19th-century large gilt-brass mounted Paris porcelain centerpiece bowl brought $6,457; and a 19th-century English nickel silver tortoiseshell work box hit $3,690. Prices include a 23 percent buyer’s premium.

 

Meeks parlor suite, $24,200, Stevens

 

Afive-piece rosewood parlor suite by J. & J.W. Meeks, circa 1855, consisting of a sofa, two parlor chairs and two armchairs, sold for $24,200 at an estate auction held Jan. 15 by Stevens Auction Co. in Aberdeen, Miss. Also, an Empire mahogany banquet table with eight leaves, circa 1880, went for $5,500; a rosewood rococo marble-top corner cabinet with etagere, 7 feet tall, circa 1850, brought $3,740; and a marble statue of a girl with a butterfly on a marble pedestal realized a combined $3,630. Prices include a 10 percent buyer’s premium.

 

R.S. Prussia bowl, $4,300, Woody Auction

 

A 15-inch R.S. Prussia carnation mold centerpiece bowl, cobalt blue with floral décor and gold stencil highlights, sold for $4,300 at an estates sale held Jan. 22 by Woody Auction in Wichita, Kan. Also, a 12-inch R.S. Prussia carnation mold chocolate pot set with four cups, six saucers, a creamer and a sugar, cobalt blue with gold highlights, also realized $4,300; an 8-piece set of proof 2000 Olympic gold coins rose to $3,100; and a four-piece set of proof 2002 “Natura Cheetah” gold coins also topped out at $3,100. Prices are hammer, exclusive of a buyer’s premium.

 

Winchester poster, $4,246, SoldUSA.com

 

A colorfully rich and vibrant poster from 1909, advertising the Winchester .401-caliber self-loading rifle and originally painted by Philip R. Goodwin, sold for $4,246 in an Internet and catalog auction that ended Jan. 22 by SoldUSA.com. Also, a 1917 Winchester calendar titled Spooked, originally painted by W. K. Leigh, went for $3,678; a Burnside cavalry carbine rifle, all original and fully functional, hit $1,718; and an Evans lever-action sporting rifle with an interesting provenance made $1,302. Prices include a 13 percent buyer’s premium.

 

Anisfeld painting,$93,225, Philip Weiss

 

A n original oil-on-canvas painting by Boris Israelevich Anisfeld (Russian, 1879-1973), from the artist’s Horses of St. Mark series, sold for $93,225 at an estates auction held Jan. 21-23 by Philip Weiss Auctions in Oceanside, N.Y. Also, the original two-piece costume worn by Bob Keeshan for the iconic children’s TV show Captain Kangaroo breezed to $9,323; an original contract signed by Elvis Presley and his parents for a home purchase in 1956 realized $9,605; and a Janis Joplin concert poster, 1968, made $8,193. Prices include a 13 percent buyer’s premium.

 

Roche Bobois set,$2,530, Nadeau’s

 

ARoche Bobois four-piece leather sofa set sold for $2,530 at an auction held Feb. 5 by Nadeau’s Auction Gallery in Windsor, Conn. Also, a Heriz Oriental rug with a hole in it that was only expected to fetch $200-$400 ended up selling for $4,715; a Hummel nativity set brought $1,955; an oil-on-canvas painting by Howard Rackliffe topped out at $1,035; four Herman Miller fiberglass chairs coasted to $690; and a mirror attributed to Tommi Parzinger went to a determined bidder for $1,955. Prices include a 15 percent buyer’s premium.

 

1921 Saint-Gaudens gold coin,$126,500, Heritage Galleries

 

A1921 Saint-Gaudens $20 gold coin, graded MS62 NGC, one of only a few known and the second rarest issue series in high grades, sold for $126,500 at a U.S. Coin Auction held Feb. 5-6 by Heritage Galleries in Long Beach, Calif. Also, a 1907 $20 high relief flat rim gold coin, graded MS66 PCGS, chalked up $97,750; a 1915-S $50 Panama-Pacific octagonal coin, graded MS63 PCGS, coasted to $86,250; and an 1885 $20 gold coin realized $80,500. Prices include a 15 percent buyer’s premium.

 

Marblehead pottery vase,$86,250, James D. Julia

 

AMarblehead pottery vase consisting of stylized flowers with applied slips on a beautiful matte finish green body, one of only six known, sold for $86,250 at an Antiques & Fine Art Auction held Feb. 3-4 by James D. Julia Inc., in Fairfield, Maine. Also, an original painting of a busy town scene by Dutch painter Andrianus Eversen soared to $56,350; a pair of English Hepplewhite carved mahogany open armchairs fetched $52,900; and a Cushing & White steam locomotive and tender weather vane went for $43,125. Prices include a 15 percent buyer’s premium.

 

A.M. Cassandre poster,$16,800, Swann Galleries

 

An Art Deco poster by A.M. Cassandre, titled Normandie, Paris, circa 1938, sold for $16,800 at a sale of Ocean Liner and Transportation Memorabilia held Feb. 3 by Swann Galleries in New York City. Also, a collection of 75 souvenir spoons, jelly spreaders and tea strainers, mostly from Cunard liners but with some White Star liners as well, went for $6,960; and a scrapbook kept by Commodore Harry Manning with materials related to the maiden voyage of the ship the United States in 1952 rose to $6,000. Prices include a 20 percent buyer’s premium.

 

Winslow Homer work,$414,800, Keno Auctions

 

Amid-career watercolor by Winslow Homer, titled Five Boys at the Shore, Gloucester (1880) sold for $414,800 at an auction held Jan. 18 by Keno Auctions in New York. Also, a sketch by Andrew Wyeth titled Olson House and Farm, Cushing, Maine (1939-1940) brought $41,840; a William and Mary veneered high chest of drawers (Boston, circa 1705-1725) realized $317,200; and a William Turner Queen Anne mahogany slipper-front tea table of the Goddard-Townsend School (circa 1750) hit $170,800. Prices include a 22 percent buyer’s premium.

 

Steinway grand piano,$19,555, Stephenson’s

 

ASteinway Model B ebony grand piano, with original receipt of purchase from the 1960s, sold for $19,555 at an Antiques & Fine Art Sale held Jan. 1-2 by Stephenson’s Auctioneers in Southampton, Pa. Also, an oil-on-canvas landscape painting of the Hudson River Valley by William Mason Brown (American, 1828-1898), 21 inches by 29 inches, climbed to $19,555; a hand-tied Tabriz rug from the late 18th or early 19th century reached $8,050; and a Stieff six-piece sterling silver tea and coffee service coasted to $4,600. Prices include a 15 percent buyer’s premium.

 

Tiffany Arrowroot lamp,$182,500, Doyle New York

 

ATiffany Studios bronze and leaded Favrile glass Arrowroot lamp designed circa 1900 by Clara Driscoll sold for $182,500 at a Belle Epoque Auction held Feb. 9 by Doyle New York in Manhattan. It was a new world auction record for a Tiffany Arrowroot lamp. Also, a pair of French gilt and patinated bronze and rouge marble figures of an ancient Egyptian scribe and high priest realized $80,500; and a Tiffany Studios bronze and leaded Favrile glass bamboo lamp from the early 20th century made $59,375. Prices include a 25 percent buyer’s premium.

 

George II library chairs,$164,500, Doyle New York

 

An outstanding pair of George II library chairs sold for $164,500 at a sale of Old Master Paintings & Drawings and Important English and Continental Furniture & Decorations held Jan. 26 by Doyle New York in New York City. Also, an Old Master painting by Jacques-Laurent Agasse, titled Miss Cazenove on her Favorite Hunter, sold for $194,500; and a pair of Regency wine coolers by Paul Storr, with the Arms of Lieven, fetched $128,500. The sale grossed over $2.7 million. Prices include a 25 percent buyer’s premium.

 

Queen Anne highboy,$8,050, Carlsen Gallery

 

An 18th-century Connecticut Queen Anne tiger maple highboy sold for $8,050 at an auction held Jan. 16 by Carlsen Gallery in Freehold, N.Y. Also, a multiple lot of several drawings Andrew Wyeth brought $8,050; a two-part 18th-century step-back cupboard brought $7,820; an early 19th-century two-drawer French Bombay commode topped out at $6,900; a circa-1814 six-piece coin silver tea and coffee service crossed the block at $6,900; and an oil on canvas work signed by Maurer (Pont des Arts, Paris) made $5,750. Prices include a 15 percent buyer’s premium.

An 18th-century Italian Milanese rococo desk sold for $29,900 at an auction held Jan. 9 by CRN Auctions in Cambridge, Mass. Also, a Chinese jade dragon seal with the 17th- or 18th-century Kangxi mark went to an online bidder for $25,960; a pair of 19th-century Sevres cobalt blue porcelain urns sold to a bidder on the phone for $20,700; an abstract wool tapestry titled Byzantium by the Australian artist John Coburn made $17,250; and a 19th-century pair of French pine corner cupboards crossed the block at $5,750. Prices include a 15 percent buyer’s premium.

 

John Tax decoy,$115,000, Copley

 

Afeeding Canada goose stick-up decoy sold for $115,000 at a Winter Sale held Jan. 17 by Copley Fine Art Auctions in New York City. Also, a pair of working goldeneye decoys by Elmer Crowell flew off for $109,250; a Joseph Lincoln mallard drake changed hands for $86,250; a canvasback drake decoy with original paint by Lee Dudley of Knott’s Island, S.C., fetched $80,500; and an original painting by Ogden Pleissner, titled The Shore Line, realized $48,875. The sale grossed $1.55 million. Prices include a 15 percent buyer’s premium.
