NEW YORK — Nearly 400 lots of antique and vintage Americana comes to market along with an eclectic mix of tramp and hobo art in Jasper52‘s Americana, Folk Art, and Outsider Art sale, scheduled for Thursday, August 15 at 6 pm Eastern time. The catalog is now open for bidding at LiveAuctioneers.
The first highlight is a tramp art kissing doves wall hanging attributed to John Zadzora. Zadzora was active between 1905 and 1920 and is known for creating five-mirror wall hangings exactly like the Jasper52 example. The 1959 book Tramp Art by Frances Lichten featured a nearly identical unattributed work. Zadzora would not be identified by name until many years later, and long after his death. The piece is estimated at $3,000-$3,500.
Also on offer is a Civil War-era 52nd Massachusetts 1st Infantry sergeant frock coat, later modified to reflect the rank of lieutenant. It belonged to Edward F. Hamlin who enlisted as a private in September 1862. The lot is estimated at $6,000-$7,000.
The final highlight is an 1890s American flag quilt, treadle-assembled and hand-quilted. It is estimated at $4,000-$6,000.
