BERLIN – Jeschke van Vliet‘s first auction of 2022, set for April 29, features 469 lots of rare books, prints and classical art. Absentee and Internet live bidding will be available through LiveAuctioneers.

Under its department head Balazs Jadi, the auction house has long since established itself as one of the top addresses for artists’ books and international press prints with original prints. Jadi’s acquisitions are international and the Berlin auction house is increasingly focusing on important American artists. The now rare artist’s book American Dream by Pop Art icon Robert Indiana is offered in the April 29 sale with an estimate of €6,000-€9,000.

Willem de Kooning’s 17 large-format lithographs for Frank O Hara’s poems, printed on Japanese Kitaka paper, are bound in high-quality Nigerian goatskin. This Limited Editions Club work is estimated at €2,600-€3,900.

More geometric are Josef Albers’ classic Interaction of Color in the second edition with 81 silkscreen plates, which Jeschke van Vliet has valued at €2,500-€3,750, as well as the Stedelijk paintings and drawings with 10 large-format lithographs by Agnes Martin printed on transparent paper, which is estimated at €2,200-€3,300.

The Berlin auction house is now dedicating an entire section to the growing field of high-quality French bibliophilia with its superbly crafted bindings and its prints on a wide variety of papers. At the top of the list are Joan Miro’s collaborations with Phillipe Denis at Maeght in the Cahier d’ombres of 1971, for which he contributed three signed original lithographs. This collaboration is estimated at €5,500-€8,250.

In 1960, George Braque created four butterflies, which he had printed on different papers in a very small edition of only six copies, three of which he signed by hand. This bibliophilic treasure carries an estimate of €3,000-€4,500.

Rounding out the highlights is a sensational original portfolio of historic photographs of the construction of the Bagdad railway in Turkey, edited around 1890 in Istanbul, which has an estimate of €10,000-€15,000.
