NEW YORK – On Wednesday, March 15, beginning at 4 pm Eastern time, Jasper52 will present a sale titled DISCOVER the 70’s: Pop Art. Absentee and Internet live bidding will be available through LiveAuctioneers.

Featuring 99 lots, primarily of serigraphs and lithographs, the auction contains works by art-world superstars as well as less prominent names. The pieces on offer include a 1971 unsigned Robert Indiana LOVE-Stable serigraph, as well as a 1972 Indiana serigraph for a three-act opera on Lord Byron; several by Marc Chagall, including a 1974 lithograph with a Four Seasons theme; a Peter Blake Alice in Wonderland serigraph from 1970; works by Josef Albers, including the 1972 serigraph Articulation III; and a signed Larry Rivers lithograph from 1979, created to commemorate the 20th anniversary of Lincoln Center, which transforms the iconic building into a birthday cake.

Alex Katz, ‘William Dunas Dance, Pamela-American Dance Festival,’ signed lithograph, estimated at $2,100-$3,000

Also featured is Reflection, a curious signed 1971 serigraph by Will Barnet; an unsigned 1978 Walasse Ting serigraph of a nude reclining among flowers with a supremely self-satisfied look on her face; a cheerfully colorful untitled abstract serigraph Larry Zox made in 1971 to promote a Mostly Mozart festival; Katherine Porter’s Music, a signed serigraph created for the 1972 Newport Jazz Festival; Multi, a 1973 serigraph of a graphic for a community holiday festival, rendered in bold brush strokes by Friedel Dzubas; and Lowell Nesbitt’s strikingly well-observed rendition of a white poinsettia, as a 1978 serigraph.

First among the highlights is Contemporary Graphics from the Studio in Rome, an unsigned 1970 serigraph that has an estimate of $675-$975. It derives from a limited edition of 300, was printed on Fabriano paper, and has been assigned a condition rating of A-, or Near Mint, with what are described as “very light signs of handling.”

‘Appropriation print with Andy Warhol, Frank Stella, and Roy Lichtenstein,’ Richard Pettibone serigraph, estimated at $9,400-$11,300

The work on paper in the auction that carries the highest estimate of all is Appropriation print with Andy Warhol, Frank Stella and Roy Lichtenstein by Richard Pettibone. It unites works by the three named artists into one serigraph, made in 1970. Also assigned a condition rating of A-, or Near Mint, its estimate is $9,400-$11,300.

Also on offer is Alex Katz’s William Dunas Dance, Pamela-American Dance Festival, created for the 1979 American Dance Festival. One from an edition of 125, it is in A- or Near Mint condition and is hand-signed and numbered by Katz in pencil. Its estimate is $2,100-$3,000.
