HARTWELL, GA — The Karlocks Kars and Pop Culture Museum of Hannibal, Missouri, has closed, and Rockabilly Auction Company is set to sell its amazing inventory of vintage petroliana and advertising on Friday, August 23 and Saturday, August 24. In total, nearly 850 lots will cross the block in one of the most-watched sales of the year.
With a standard $100-$100,000 estimate range on all lots, Rockabilly has highlighted what it thinks are the top performers as featured lots. Day 1’s likely winners include a stunning Koolmotor Pennsylvania Oil double-sided porcelain ‘lollipop’ sign dating to the 1930s or 1940s. It stands nearly 57in in height, and the sign itself is 24.25in in diameter. The cast-iron base looks original and the entire presentation is exceptional, with only minor chips.
Measuring 27.5 by 12in is an Orange Crush embossed single-sided tin sign. Rockabilly notes only three flaws: a small touch-up on the top left edge, a shallow bend, and a scratch above the bottle. Marked B-769, the Orange Crush sign looks to be from the 1940s.
Day 2 is led by what could be the sale’s biggest hit: a Rexall Drugs vertical double-sided porcelain bullnose neon sign. Fully operational with stunning red and blue neon, the porcelain has some chips in the field and on the perimeter, with rust stains in some areas. Rockabilly also notes that the sign is currently crated and ready for transport to the new owner’s home or office.
The sale’s final featured lot is a 1941 Wurlitzer Model 850 Peacock jukebox. Complete with 24 78rpm records, the unit works and ‘sounds great.’ Rockabilly states that one of the two front bubble tubes needs repair, but the unit itself has been recently serviced and is ready for its new home.
