CHICAGO – In the spirit of summer, Rivich Auction will present an auction of Americana lovers’ dreams. How To Make It In America: Americana & More will celebrate the best of Americana, Southwestern, Native American, and contemporary American history and design. This auction will feature items such as antique bronzes of mountain men, traditional Southwestern jewelry, authentic 1920s Ford Model Ts, classic American design pieces, and memorabilia from the 1992 U.S. Men’s Olympic Basketball Dream Team. Absentee and Internet live bidding will be available through LiveAuctioneers.

With multiple lots dedicated specifically to more recent American sports, Rivich is highlighting the U.S. Men’s Olympic Basketball 1992 Dream Team in the form of a basketball signed by several of its members, estimated at $1,000-$40,000. It boasts signatures by Michael Jordan, Scottie Pippen, Larry Bird, Magic Johnson, David Robinson, Patrick Ewing, Charles Barkley and many others. Including a total of 12 names, this autographed ball represents a turning point in American history, pride and love of the game.

The July 16 sale also features a group of vintage vehicles with production dates spanning 1921 to 1925. These include a 1925 Model T tow truck, estimated at $10,000-$40,000, which was originally made for use by Polarine, a branch of the Standard Oil company. Earning a reputation for its frost and carbon-proof oil, Polarine was used and sold by the Standard Oil company to ensure a smooth ride on vintage vehicles.

Lot 128, a 1922 Ford Model T Standard Oil service truck, also estimated at $10,000-$40,000, is incredibly rare and was used as a service vehicle for the Standard Oil Company. This vehicle is in great running and working order, and was barely ever used after its acquisition by the city of Whiting, Indiana. It has a traditional restored inner and outer body as well.

Another standout is an original 1924 Ford Model T lubricating oil tanker that has a $10,000-$40,000 estimate. Commissioned for the Polarine subsect of the Standard Oil company of Indiana, it is fully equipped and has freshly restored authentic dark wood and black accents. This tanker is another amazing piece of history, rarely even seen in museums or private collections.

Completing the parade is a striking red 1935 Ford Model 18 Standard Oil tanker that carries the same estimate as the previous three machines. Originally used for transportation by the Standard Oil company of Indiana and specifically marked for Red Crown gasoline, this vehicle is native to the Midwest states of the U.S. Only a handful of Red Crown gasoline stations still stand today.

Specifically acquired by the city of Whiting, Indiana, these vehicles showcase the importance of the oil industry to this area. Home to Whiting Refinery, the largest oil refinery in the Midwest, the northwest Indiana city was home to almost 10,000 new residents in the early 1920s. Drawn to the area by the opportunities provided by the then-newly built oil refinery, these individuals grew a lakeside town into a bustling, industrious city. All of these vehicles have been fully restored on the inner and outer bodies and are in great working condition.
