PORTLAND, Maine – The Portland Museum of Art has named Shalini Le Gall as the Susan Donnell and Harry W. Konkel Curator of European Art and Director of Academic Engagement. Le Gall will conceive and develop exhibitions and gallery installations that will enhance understanding of European art and the PMA collection, as well as serve as the museum’s primary point of contact with colleges and universities in Maine, participating in the implementation of a comprehensive academic vision.
Le Gall joins the PMA after five years at the Colby College Museum of Art, where she worked as curator of academic programs.
Le Gall has a doctorate degree in Art History from Northwestern University, specializing in 19th-century European art. She has lectured widely on topics ranging from European art to museum pedagogy, and her publications include essays on the French photographer Charles Marville and the British artists William De Morgan, James Gillray and Holman Hunt. She has spent time abroad, teaching courses in 19th- and 20th- century French painting and museum studies for NYU in Paris.
