BENNINGTON, Vt. (AP) – Vermont’s Bennington Museum announced Saturday that it has chosen a new executive director. Joshua Campbell Torrance will assume his new job in Bennington on Jan. 20.

Torrance is coming to Vermont from Ellsworth, Maine, where he led the Woodlawn Museum, Gardens & Park. The Bennington Museum says Torrance transformed the all-volunteer historic house and 180-acre park in Ellsworth into a community centered institution.

Torrance says he is looking forward to delving into the museum’s vast collections of over 40,000 objects.

The Bennington Museum describes itself as a museum of art, history, and innovation. The museum got its start in 1852 with the incorporation of the Bennington Historical Association, which was originally founded to commemorate the pivotal 1777 Revolutionary War Battle of Bennington, which was fought nearby.
