LINCOLN PARK, N.J. – Willow Auction House is proud to present The Salmagundi Club Benefit & December Great Estates Auction, taking place on December 2 at noon Eastern time. Absentee and Internet live bidding will be available through LiveAuctioneers.
The sale features more than 300 lots, including more than 100 items from the Salmagundi Club. Also on offer will be mid-century and Danish modern furniture, paintings, prints and sculptures, as well as a selection of jewelry, silver, bronzes and rugs.
The first portion of the sale will benefit the Salmagundi Club, a 501(c)(3) not-for-profit artist’s club in New York City. Created in 1871, Salmagundi is one of the oldest arts organizations in the United States. Featuring furniture, as well as curator selected artwork and additional items donated by patrons, the sale of these pieces will benefit the club.
Among the lots donated for auction, several pieces by Kipp Soldwedel, including a large oil on canvas titled Captain Cook: Australia Bound, and estimated at $400-$600. Soldwedel was a well-known American artist and member of the Salmagundi Club. There are also several furniture pieces from the club’s historic building at 47 Fifth Avenue, including a pair of mahogany settees that appear individually as lots 13 and 14, each estimated $100-$200.
Beginning at lot 200 is Willow Auction House’s final curated auction of 2021. The sale’s highlights include a selection of items from a condominium at 211 Elizabeth Street in New York City. The building itself, as well as the storefronts and interiors, were all designed by the renowned Roman and Williams Buildings and Interiors. The Arne Norell Kontiki sofa, which carries an estimate of $2,000-$2,500, as well as the Bruno Mathsson bentwood Eva chair, estimated $400-$600, were both featured in the book Roman and Williams Buildings and Interiors: Things We Made.
The auction also features a pair of modern lounge chairs by Percival Lafer, estimated at $1,100-$1,500; a Peter Lovig Nielsen Danish modern desk, estimated at $1,000-$1,500; and a hyperrealism sculpture by Carole Feuerman, estimated $4,000-$5,000.
Rounding out the sale is a selection of Caucasian and Persian rugs, jewelry, bronzes and silver.
