SAN FRANCISCO – Turner Auctions + Appraisals will present a sale of Sports Cards & Memorabilia, Toy Cars, and Trains on Saturday, April 30 beginning at 10:30 am Pacific time. Absentee and Internet live bidding will be available through LiveAuctioneers.
The auction features more than 230 lots from several Northern California collectors and estates. Represented among the sports cards are legends such as Shaquille O’Neal, Michael Jordan and Joe Montana. In addition, many sports cards lots include commons of 2,000 or more. The lineup also contains a wide selection of sports memorabilia, including signed bats and photos from the San Francisco Giants as World Series champions and a variety of signed or souvenir boxing gloves connected with Manny Pacquiao, Oscar de la Hoya, Ricky Hatton and Roberto Duran.
Also on offer are several groupings of Johnny Lightning toy cars in a range of years and series, most still on their original cards. These include commemorative cars, challengers, dragsters, muscle cars, classic customs, toy fair, promotional, and limited and special editions, plus originals on topper cards. Other manufacturers are represented as well: racing champions, Lionel revolvers and speed rebels, sizzlers and Mattel Hot Wheels. Almost all of the model train offerings are from Lionel, including locomotives, switchers, cabooses, and also freight, box, stock, dump and passenger cars, plus many limited and special edition train sets. There are also some specialty train items such as a snowplow switcher, a burro crane and various accessories.
Highlights of the upcoming sale include an NBA Golden State Warriors basketball made with Swarovski crystals. It comes with a display case as well as a metal case and it is estimated at $700-$900. Another clear winner is a San Francisco Giants team-signed base from the 2010 World Series winners. It carries an estimate of $500-$700.
A standout from the toy selection in the auction lineup is a quartet of original unopened Johnny Lightning cars on topper cards, estimated at $20-$50. Prizes among the toy trains are led by a Lionel 6-18300 Mint Car Series Pennsylvania GG-1 electric locomotive in its original box. Its estimate is $200-$300.
