Hockney lithograph made waves at Ahlers & Ogletree sale

ATLANTA, Ga. – A color lithograph on paper by the acclaimed British artist David Hockney (b. 1937-), titled Bora Bora, climbed to $47,795, and original artworks by American artists Thomas Wilmer Dewing and William Worcester Churchill posted identical prices of $39,325 in three days of auctions held June 15-17 by Ahlers & Ogletree Auction Gallery. The auctions featured items from the collection of a North Carolina gentleman on Thursday, June 15; then a Summer Fine Estates & Collections auction was conducted on Friday and Saturday, June 16 and 17. Nearly 1,000 lots came up for bid in a sale that grossed $1.2 million. Absentee and Internet live bidding was facilitated through LiveAuctioneers.

ATLANTA – A monumental Art Deco-style bronze jardiniere sold for $26,620, a Cartier-style 18K gold and diamond panther collar necklace finished at $20,520, and a brass plaque depicting a stylized face by Roy Lichtenstein realized $14,520 in Ahlers & Ogletree’s three-session April Estates & Collections auction held April 20, 21 and 22 in Atlanta.

Nicola Simbari, ‘Sail Boats in Puerto Marques,’ estimated at $4,000-$6,000
ATLANTA – An equestrian study in oil by Rosa Bonheur (French, 1822-1899), a scene of colorful sailboats on a beach by Nicola Simbari (Italian, 1927-2012), and a large bronze winter scene sculpture after Evgeni Lanceray (Russian and French, 1848-1886), are among the expected top lots in Ahlers & Ogletree’s three-session April Estates & Collections auction. It is slated for Thursday, April 20, Friday April 21 and Saturday, April 22, starting at 10 am Eastern time all three days. Thomas E. Mails, ‘Hualapi Country,’ estimated at $6,000-$8,000
ATLANTA – Vibrant Native American-themed paintings by Frank McCarthy (1944-2002), Emmi Whitehorse (b. 1956-) and the Reverend Thomas E. Mails (American, 1920-2001) are expected headliners in Ahlers & Ogletree’s Art of the American West & Native American Art & Objects auction on Friday, February 24. The sale, beginning at 10 am Eastern time, will feature 255 lots of fine art of the American West and Native American objects, including pottery, fine art and rugs. Featured artists, in addition to McCarthy and Whitehorse, will include R. Farrington Ewell, Joe Beeler, Walt Gonske, Curt Walters, Alan Houser, Clyde Aspevig and Dan Namingha. ATLANTA – A Lalique Anemones Grand vase and pedestal sold for $24,200, an artist proof’s bronze sculpture on a brass base by German-Israeli artist Tolla Inbar brought $20,570, and a painting by Robert Jessup (American, b. 1952-) realized $18,150 at a sale of items from Atlanta entertainment attorney Joel A. Katz held January 12 by Ahlers & Ogletree.

ATLANTA – Items from the Atlanta home of entertainment attorney Joel A. Katz, more than 550 lots in all, will come up for bid in an unreserved auction planned for Thursday, January 12 by Ahlers & Ogletree.
