NEW YORK – Home furnishings are more than just utilitarian objects to make our lives easier. For hundreds of years, craftsmen the world over have created items for the home that not only perform the service for which they are intended — they do it with style, personality and beauty

Fine furnishings and decorative arts from the 18th to the 20th centuries are the focus at Jasper52‘s Era of Elegance auction on Tuesday, September 19, starting at 3 pm Eastern time. The sale is now open for bidding exclusively at LiveAuctioneers.

Looking beautiful at more than 240 years of age, this pair of Chippendale George II tables are from a Chicago estate and feature mahogany flip tops revealing a tea table area on one, while the other opens to reveal a card table. The set carries an estimate of $18,000-$22,000.

Antique table lamps add tremendous character to any setting. This Handel Arts & Crafts palm tree table lamp dates to the 1900s and features brilliant color. Made of art glass and bronze, it is estimated at $11,000-$13,000.

From the mid-century modern period of design comes this pair of Asko Laila armchairs finished in sheepskin. Designed by Ilmari Lappalainen for the Finnish company best remembered for its mid-century modern furniture, the pair have been estimated at $19,000-$23,000.
