BUFORD, Ga. – Slotin Folk Art Auction’s first stand-alone pottery sale in 2020 was a trial balloon to determine if collectors would respond, and they most assuredly did. Now, with its fourth edition taking place February 11-12, this dedicated auction is expanding in more ways than one. Slotin’s single-day Pottery Extravaganza is bigger for 2023 and is joined by a second-day sale dedicated to Native American art, quilts and Americana. The strong results were driven by several works by German-American artist Peter Max (b. 1937-), a wide selection of Chinese Jun ware and a double eagle gold coin pendant necklace.

BUFORD, GA. – Slotin Folk Art Auction will hold its third stand-alone pottery sale on Saturday, February 12. The 371 lots range from traditional tobacco-spit-glazed pots by extended families of makers such as the Meaders and Hewells, who handed down the craft tradition through multiple generations, to works by emerging and established studio potters. Absentee and Internet live bidding will be available through LiveAuctioneers.

BUFORD, Ga. – Growing up in Georgia, Steve Slotin, who co-owns and operates Slotin Folk Art Auction with his wife, Amy, is quick to say he knew the best swimming holes and BBQ joints, but didn’t know much about the visual culture of the South. It took getting fired from CliffsNotes in his early twenties to discover a passion for folk and self-taught art. The couple spent their honeymoon traveling around the United States buying art. They launched an instantly popular annual art show, Folk Fest, in 1993, and a few years later, began their specialized auction business focusing not just on Southern folk art but self-taught art from all over the country.
