BORDEN, Ind. (AP) – A general store that’s a longtime southern Indiana landmark has closed its doors and will be auctioned off this month along with its accumulated hoard of antiques and collectibles.

Brewer’s General Store opened in 1931 in the town of Borden about 20 miles north of Louisville, Ky. The store, its property and contents will be auctioned off June 23.

Corydon auctioneer Brian Beckort tells The Courier-Journal of Louisville, Ky. that relatives of store founder John William Brewer hope someone will buy the store and keep Brewer’s much like the mom-and-pop operation it’s been for 80-plus years.

The store’s interior contains wooden display cases, a brass National cash register and scores of old signs.
