LOS ANGELES – The Seidenbaum Residence, a home designed by Richard Dorman and which has been listed by the American Institute of Architects as ranking among the greatest pieces of architecture created in Los Angeles between 1947 and 1967, is for sale for the first time in 45 years. It is priced at $16.5 million.

Only one block above Sunset Boulevard, the Seidenbaum Residence includes 1.27 secluded acres with two combined properties sold as one. Tucked away down a long-private-deeded driveway, the mid-century-modern-style home was recently restored and enhanced by architect John Bertram.

The Seidenbaum Residence has a large flat yard, which is rare in the area, and a gently sloping hillside of specimen trees that frame the estate, providing extreme privacy and the feeling of living in a garden far away from the crowded city. The property has large garden boxes for growing vegetables, fruit and flowers, and, halfway up the hillside, a second flat pad large enough for a studio, a children’s play area, or for outdoor entertaining.

The 6,151-square-foot interior has six bedrooms, seven baths and natural wood floors and beams with high ceilings, white walls and sliding walls of glass that usher in light throughout the house. Downstairs are four large guest suites, a gym/office, a spacious formal dining room, a den, a two-story entry gallery, and an open kitchen/family room surrounded by glass walls. Upstairs is the master suite with dual walk-in closets, dual spa-like baths, a large lounge area and a private office.  An additional guest suite is above the garage.

Though the peace and quiet of the property seems out of the way of city activity, all the conveniences of Brentwood’s shopping, dining, schools, biking and hiking are only a few minutes away. Located in a popular residential area for celebrities, the new owner might rub elbows with neighbors such as Arnold Schwarzenegger, LeBron James, Gwyneth Paltrow, Tom Brady and Gisele Bundchen.

Billy Rose, founder and vice chairman of The Agency, Beverly Hills holds the listing.
